He married Brenda Fortner on December 30, 1971, in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is survived by his wife, Brenda, his children Aaron & Stephanie (Lincoln, NE), Cara & John (Easton, KS), and Evan, and his grandchildren: Bryce, Allison, Loralai, Aubree, John Marcus, and Mayleigh + many “bonus” kids and grandkids including Rob & Shelly Needham (Sam, Isaac, Lydia, and Rachel). Other survivors include his siblings David & Renita (Cushing, OK), Susie (Oklahoma City, OK), and Don & Glynda (Oklahoma City, OK), along with their children and grandchildren.

In the course of their 48 years of marriage, Dane & Brenda spent time living all over Oklahoma, as well as in San Antonio, TX; Amarillo, TX; Lincoln, NE; Cabot, AR; and Lawrence, KS. Dane was a faithful follower of Christ, loving and beloved husband, father, grandpa, son, and brother.

Messages & Condolences

From Al Allee...

Although Dane and I both attended DHS that is not where I got to know him. Our career interests were very similar and we ended up working together in a couple of organizations. He was one of the hardest working men that I encountered during my career. His word was absolutely trustworthy. His character and reputation were beyond reproach. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. The world has lost a good man and I have lost a good friend.

From Michael and Dawn...

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Offutt family. We often speak of people who have physically died in the past tense. However, physical life is but part of our journey. Dane was (is still) an amazing man, friend, and neighbor. As a man of God, and I appreciated the constant example he set for my kids and myself. We are all the better off for the chance to get to know him. Dawn was especially excited when we moved in that there was a SoDak connection. I told her that Dane was the model I aspired to when I “grew up.” Like me, he was a life-long learner, and I sincerely appreciated the time and review he provided for my graduate papers as well as the neighborly advice and sharing of tools. He will be dearly missed.
