Christy Miller Joyce, 52, died peacefully at her home in Lawrence, Kansas, on May 27, 2020. She was raised in Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Harry Miller and Deanna Miller Drake, nee Williford, and she was a longtime resident of Johnson County, Kansas.
She is survived by her father and her step mother, Pat Miller, of Lawrence, by her two siblings, David Miller and Lydia Miller, and by many, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She studied literature at the University of Kansas and received a degree from Johnson County Community College School of Hospitality & Culinary Arts. Christy raised and loved three sweet Yorkies, Rudy, Jack and Nikki, she was a passionate Chiefs, Jayhawks and Royals fan, and above all, she loved to cook and host, surrounded by friends, family, snorts of laughter and fun.
During their marriage, she and ex-husband Gareth Joyce traveled widely and enjoyed life in the company of many friends.
Because of current public health concerns, no services are planned at this time. A joyful celebration of life is planned for a time next year close to her birthday, May 22. An announcement will be posted on her legacy Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers or other memorials, the family recommends donations to DCCC First Step at Lake View, Lawrence, Kansas (https://dccca.org/recovery-today-fund/), or Heartland Community Health Center, Lawrence, Kansas (https://heartlandhealth.org/online-donation/).
Christy was a friend that I had only met a little over a year ago, but she was such an amazing woman. She was everything you could ask for in a friend. She’ll be dearly missed.
Harry, I was so sad to hear about your daughter. Remember, we love you always! (and always have since we were neighbors so long ago) When I heard this today, as Tom Tietze stopped by Jack’s house and they called me, I thought about you and the memories flooded back . My prayers are with you !!!!
A beautiful light has been extinguished. I know she is with her mom and grandparents. I miss her everyday.
Harry – We were so sad to read of Christy’s passing. Sending our love, prayers and condolences to you and the family. Dixie and Bob Waters
I am so sad for the loss of Christy. I saw you as a little girl. What a beautiful soul. You were beautiful inside and out. I am sorry for your loss Harry. I will see you at the celebration of Christy’s life.
Christy was a dear friend whom I will truly miss having her in my life. She was a joy and will always be in my heart and memories. She’s at peace now , I hope someone is taking care of little Nikki for her.
You were my twin. Born on the same day (May 22) years apart, this was our bond. You dub us the FAS twins (fun as s**t) girls because we clicked when we met. What a great heart you have and beautiful soul. God bless you my sweet friend.
Goodbye my wonderful friend! I will miss our talks and mostly your laughter and positive attitude. You are now with God smiling down upon us. I know we will see each other someday. You are truly going to be missed!
RIP sweet girl, you will be greatly missed!!!
Christy was a wonderful friend. We have had years of memories and I will miss her dearly. Much love to her family and friends.
You were so much more than a cousin to me. I miss you every day.
A darling, vivacious young lady.
Gone way to soon.
She always seemed to be laughing.
Goodbye, Christy. I will always remember your infectious laugh, and seeing you at family and friends gatherings at Pat and Harry’s house, doing your cooking magic with Lydia. Hope to see you again someday. ❤️
Rest peacefully, sweet cousin.
