Yellow Singing Bird Woman
Elizabeth Marie Blessington, 57, of Lawrence, KS, went home to God on November 12, 2022. Beth was born to James (Jim) and Mercedes (Mickie Burnell) Blessington on 20 August 1965 in St. Joseph, MO. Beth’s interests lay in many directions: she was a paralegal and a licensed insurance representative and office manager. Her true passion was massage therapy; she was a certified Massage Therapist, with a specialty in Reiki and Oncology Massage.
Beth was very involved in Lakota spirituality. She poured Sweat Lodges, attended the scared Sundance* ceremonies, and tried to live a simple life. Her Lakota sister, Laura Goetz, accompanied Beth for the greater part of her adult life.
She enjoyed craft work: she sewed, making baby quilts for family members, and used her Cricut machine to make cards, shirts, and other surprises for her family and friends. She cross-stitched birth announcements for her grandchildren and Christmas stockings for everyone in her family.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Mickie Blessington, and her sister, Terre Allen.
Beth is survived by three children: Monica White (Tommy), Sam Blessington, Helen Schaake (Chandler), and eight grandchildren: Stephanie Donnici, Violet Miller, Grace White, Anthony Duncan, Sonny White, Lola Duncan, Sterling Schaake, and Mae Schaake.
Surviving siblings are: Marci Abels (Steve), Jim Blessington, Mary Blessington, John Blessington, Joe Blessington (Ronda), Rita Carlock, and Laura Goetz (Dan). Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and their children.
* Sundance is largely believed to be the oldest Lakota ceremony.
Memorial services for Elizabeth Marie Blessington, will be 11 am, Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

To one of the most loving laughing, caring, lady of grace, kindness, thoughtfulness and so much more I can’t say enough of what I’ve learned from her on how to pass. I love your bravery while facing the biggest challenge one would face on earth. Soar sweet lady!
Beth may your heavenly journey be bright, happy and painless. You seemed as if you searched for the beauty of things here on earth, and may heaven comfort and reveal all the love, happiness and splendor that your heart can hold.
God Bless Beth & her family. She definitely fought the good fight.
To the many who were close to Beth: We are so sorry for your loss. We have been so impressed by your love and support of Beth through her years of health struggle. Love, from all of Beth’s “Uncle Dave’s” first cousins.
Prayers for all the family! Beth was a lovely, gentle woman!
I went to oncology massage school with Beth. She was a lovely woman. She agreed to allow me to interview her so she could share with new oncology massage students, about her journey with cancer and massage. She was thoughtful, open and funny. I feel blessed to have met her. Please accept my deepest condolences.
Beth, you were a ray of sunshine wherever you went. I will always miss you, your beautiful smile, and your loving attitude. Rest well, dear, until we see you again.
