Prayers to the entire family and friends.
I first met Gary at Lawrence Dragstip in the early 70’s and remained friends and beer brothers since.
He was a regular at the Slab , Man we had fun 🙂
Save me a cold one for when we meet up again.
RIP Brother See you on the other side!
My condolences to Kristin, Aaron, Lee and the brothers and sisters of the James family. Gary has been a friend for many years. We raced together ever since he started drag racing. I always admired his ability to accomplish anything that he wanted to do and never let handicap get in the way of his desires. RIP dear friend, maybe someday we can attend another race together
To the James Family,
Sending my sincere condolences to all of you. I always enjoyed my friendship with Gary, Elmer and Steve, AKA ; The James Gang!!! A great bunch of guys. May GOD Bless you all.
Gary and I played baseball in the South Park League in the late 50s. I was always impressed with his hard work and dedication. We ran into each other again in 1974 when our first children were born on the same day. I later learned he lived in the house next door to my grandparents in North Lawrence. Stay awesome Gary. You will be missed.
Our condolences to Kristin, Aaron, Lee and all of the James’ family.
I met Gary when my family moved to Lawrence in 1958. We lived around the corner from him and our dads worked across the street from each other. Gary and I were in 5th grade class at Woodlawn Elementary and he was my first friend when moving here.
Over the years we remained close and we spent countless hours together doing almost everything together from just hanging out to little league baseball and Saturday bowling league. I think I spent more time at his house than my own, even sleepovers and visiting his relatives. We would tell people we were twins, even though our actual birthdays were 1 week apart. We joked that “our” mother had an extended birth.
Later on Gary and Elmer convinced me to come to work at their newly opened import parts store. Went from a small store front on North 3rd Street to having 2 stores.
There so many memories I have and will miss him. Till we meet again brother, rest in peace.

My condolences, I’ve known Gary and the James family since the 60’s. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
The best friend a guy could have, and yet I never expressed that to him. His ability to basically take life as it was dealt to him, was amazing . Friends for many years. and yet we never talked, I knew that he knew…and when you know, you know… Sad day in the lives of many…for all of you who knew him…Gary was a special kind of person…GT
What a shocker cuz. Prayers to Judy and what few family members you and I have.
