Mr. Michael Lloyd Cone left us peacefully Tuesday, June 27, 2023 surrounded by his family in his home in Lawrence, Kansas.
He was born January 20, 1947 in San Antonio, Texas the son of Harold Herbert Cone and Lila Lorraine Evans. He graduated from Wichita High School South in 1965 where he was a member of the golf team.
He married Connie (Strand) Walden August 31st, 1968, and had a daughter, Kelly (Cone) McReynolds in 1969. They divorced, and Mike later married Audrey (Dean) Cone on October 1st, 1977. They were married for 45 adventure-filled years.
Mike began his career in sales, working originally for David’s, Macy’s, and General Electric. He later owned and operated his own business called Safeguard Business Systems.
Mike was an avid golfer, dancer, ski bum, charmer, and lover of beaches and classic country music. He and his wife Audrey were active members of Rolling Hills Country Club in Wichita, Kansas from 1987 to 2009 where Mike served as President in 1993. Mike had the best classic country music soundtrack for his life and the perfect drink to pair it with, inviting all to join.
A self-taught historian, geographer, and traveler, Mike was known for his jovial spirit, quick wit, and candid conversation. A friend to many, a Cone to all.

I knew Mike such a short time. What a joy he brought to our neighborhood. Thank you Mike for the laughter.
Gayle & I were very saddened when we heard of Mikes’s passing. Over the years we shared many wonderful moments with both Mike and Audry at their homes and on road trips. Mike was a very special friend to us and we extend our condolence to his family. We will miss him!
Oh dear brother Mike, I’m so happy you had the love and fun of your life. I’m equally grateful for the love of your daughter and her family who showed such devotion to you. Hearing these songs. I can see you and Audrey breaking I to dance and a kiss. Love and miss you, Leisa
We are so sorry about Mike’s passing. But we believe he and Audrey are together again & having fun! They were both dear friends & it is hard to think of one without thinking of the other. We are both fortunate for having them in our lives . Til we meet again! RIP
Ron and I were blessed to know Mike and Audrey, two of the most fun, friendly, adorable and amazing friends. I can see the party getting started in Heaven, now that Mike is united with Audrey, the love of his life!
As a child, I was often intimidated by Uncle Mike. He seemed so stern and set in his ways. As a grown up, I enjoyed our candid conversations and his educated advice.
I fondly remember listening to The Kingston Trio in his basement and some Waylon Jennings.
He had such a strong presence. When my dad died, I remember Uncle Mike being there with his 80’s glasses on.
I am thankful that he didn’t suffer for very long after Audrey passed.
Love and light Uncle Mike.
