Gary Wayne Ward passed Friday, November 3, 2023 in Lawrence (Lone Star), KS.
He was born November 11, 1972 in Weatherford, TX to Charles Don and Violet Jane (Harmon) Ward.
Gary graduated high school from Keota, OK in 1991. He also attended Carl Albert College in Oklahoma.
He moved to Lawrence, KS in 2000 where he worked various jobs in the area. Most recently Gary worked at Pur-O-Zone as a warehouse worker and delivery driver.
Gary is survived by his partner Steve Silvers, Lone Star, his mother Violet Ward, sister Zora Short (Kenny), brother Charles Ward (Samantha), all of Keota, OK, daughter Dannon Fox(Bryce), granddaughter Keegan, Fort Smith, AR, extended family members, long-time friend, Lonnie Stroud, Lawrence, and innumerable friends. Gary’s father preceded him in death in 1998.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 1:00-3:00 PM at Rumsey -Yost Funeral Home, followed by graveside services at Washington Creek Cemetery, please dress casual.
Memorials can be made to Visiting Nurses. On behalf of Gary and the family, we would like to recognize and thank all of the doctors, nurses, care facilities, and service providers who cared for Gary during his fight with cancer.
Gary was a patient at our office and I absolutely loved seeing him. He was such a wonderful soul and I’m so sorry for the loss. He was so kind and caring in the way he moved about this world. He definitely made a positive impact on everyone he met. <3 *hugs*
Gary and I were classmates in high school. We haven’t been in touch much through the past 32 years, however I found out a few years ago where he was living. I’ve gotten to know his mother more in recent years because her great-grandchildren are enrolled in the school where I work. I pray God comforts her and his family as He is the only one that can truly provide comfort for the broken-hearted.
I find myself thinking about you often, wondering where you ended up moving to. I’m so glad to hear you were the same Gary I remember from HS. Fly high my friend!
I will never forget how we meant Gary..it was a classic meeting..lol…i will always remember the good times we had and he will never be forgotten..RIP my dear friend..you have your wings now..❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏

I’m just lost without you here. You was one of the hardest working people I’ve ever known. I’m so sorry that your gone from our lives but God has a purpose for you in heaven. I’ve cried so many tears but I know you’re no longer in pain or suffering. Peanut will and does miss your loving ways you had with him. Until we meet again in heaven. Love you to the moon and back
My heart goes out to Gary’s family and friends. He was always really nice to me. When he would deliver my order to my facility. He was a great man. Rest in peace Gary you will be missed

I knew Gary as my mother’s renter for over 20 years. He and Lonnie were what I called ‘fastidious’. Yes, he was kind. And gentle. And giant. Indeed, one of the ‘good guys’. Godspeed to this gentleman.
I have known Gary for about 20 years. He always impressed as a caring, good person. I am so sorry for your loss of such a good guy.
