Terry Mae Bowen was in the class of 1975 at Lawrence High. After completing cosmetology school, she was a hair stylist for many years. She lived out-of-state for a short time but always considered herself a Lawrencian. She wasn’t an avid sports fan, but did enjoy traveling with friends to and out-of-state to KU football games. Her last work positions were in shipping departments, for which she was very efficient at getting product out to customers.
In retirement, she devoted herself to her two grandkids she legally adopted. She loved her family to the moon and back, and was happy with her new rote as guardian, as well as grandma.
Terry was funny, fun to be with, and loved her friends like family. She will be so very missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Helen (Farley) Bowen, and her sister, Joyce (Bowen) Chamberlain. She is survived by two daughters, Cara Heath and Bailey Hill, and three grandchildren, Tyana, Amiiya, and Keyondre.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 13th at 2:00pm at Lecompton Community Building, 333 Elmore Street, Lecompton, KS.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rumsey-Yost Funeral home to assist the family in the expenses associated with Terry’s unexpected passing: P.O Box 1260 Lawrence, KS 66044, or by calling 785-843-5111.
Terry and I were girl scout moms together, softball moms together, high school moms together. She was so much fun, just enough of a rebel to make things memorable. Sadly, I didn’t see her often after our girls graduated. But whenever I did, she was the same fun loving person. She will be missed!
Terry’s passing has brought such sadness to my heart. She has gone away too soon. Prayers to her family and to us that will miss her forever.

Oh my dear Terry… So close for so many years. I keep hearing you say “I’ll have my own little pork chop” – I have no recollection of why you said that once, but I DO know every time I’ve seen you in probably the last 55 or 60 years, I always ask how you were doing with your own little pork chop quest.. You made me laugh when times were low, sometimes you made me cry, always – because I loved you so much.. yep, you know I have the memory of an elephant, and sin I am certain you are no doubt an angel now, you know I am laughing about the “don’t tell anybody” I KNOW you know what what I “was not supposed to here”.. I never have! Is your cat Kerselda there? Only cat I have ever been terrified of!! I miss you miss Terry… I always have when we;ve gone too long in between run into each other days, and now, I always will.. You just are not old enough to lose yet Terry, I cherish all the days gone by.. Love you always (even in the bop bop bop days)! <3 Always, Julia Gregg Ingrassia
