Sandra Kaye “Sandy” Gurley, age 84 of Lawrence, passed away August 22, 2024. Sandy was born February 21, 1940 in Lawrence , the daughter of Francis E. and Doris I. Hodge Bereiter. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1958. Sandy began working at First National Bank during her Senior year in high school and continued there for 42 years, retiring from U.S. Bank in 2000. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Sandy married Bill Lewis Gurley on January 31, 1958 in Lawrence. They enjoyed over 60 years together. Survivors include a daughter, Debra Logan of Lawrence; a son, Jeffrey Gurley of Houston, Texas; a brother, Ronald Bereiter of Lecompton; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons and one great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 2021; parents; granddaughter, Jessica Gurley and a great grandson, Will Penamon. A Memorial Visitation is set for 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home of Lawrence. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America , in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana Street, Lawrence, Kansas 66044. This is truly a blast from the past. I worked with Sandy at First National for 6 years and she was a delight, always a twinkle in her eye. Then I had Debbie and Jeff in school. I am sad for the family and know that the grace of God will be with them.
Sandy was the sweetest lady. She always had a smile for everyone.
Sandy will be greatly missed by all. I enjoyed the privilege of working with her at the bank for many years.

Very sorry to hear of your loss. I met Sandy through the bank as a 5 year old account holder. Continued to see her mashing deposits for Electric Supply until she retired. Such a kind sweet woman. Wishing you peace.

Oh my, my heart goes out to the family. When I had my office in the US Bank “Tower” I always visited with her at least a couple times per week while doing bank business. She was a beautiful lady both outwardly and inwardly. We frequently talked about our wonderful families. My thoughts and prayers are with you. She was such a delightful person.
