It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Yvonne Sue Daniels, 69, of Gardner, Kansas. Yvonne passed away on Monday, November 25th, 2024 at Olathe Medical Center after a hard fought battle with Lung Cancer. She passed away peacefully with loved ones at her side.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 5th, 2024 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, KS.
Yvonne was born on July 2nd, 1955 in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of late Melvin McCombs and Carol Richardson (Plank). Yvonne married and divorced Jim Vantuyl and shared 3 Children who survive the home. Yvonne then married and divorced Rocky Daniels. After many years married and many years apart, Yvonne and Rocky found their way back to one another to live out her life with the love of her life and “BFF” until her last breath.
Yvonne is survived by Daughter Shanna Hutchcraft (Vantuyl) and Son In-law Wesley Hutchcraft of Excelsior Springs, MO, Sons Dustin Vantuyl and Significant Other Ashley DaVatz of Perry, KS and Cody Vantuyl of Tonganoxie, KS. Yvonne was also very proud to have 4 Grandchildren including Eli Cersovsky, Gavin and Jorden Vantuyl, and Jaxon Venchus. Her Sister Cindy Cook (McCombs) and Brother In-law Dana Cook and Niece Megan Cook also survive the home. Yvonne’s Brother Thomas McCombs and Sister Valerie Lynn (McCombs) along with her Parents preceded her in death.
Yvonne is loved by many. She cared deeply about her friends, co-workers and neighbors and would even offer help to a stranger on the street, if they were in need. One of her proudest accomplishments was being able to drive a School Bus for First Student in Gardner, KS after she retired from working in Human Resources most of her Adult Career. Her face would light up with happiness anytime she would talk about the kids on the bus or her work family that she became close with. She adored her neighbor-kids and looked forward to her special “coffee time” in the mornings while sitting on her front porch with them drinking their hot cocoa. She also was honored to be considered a grandma figure and cherished the heart to heart talks she would have with one of them who often would be found helping her walk her beloved dog Dilly or mowing her yard.
Yvonne was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in May 2023 and she immediately went to battle so that she could have more time with her family and friends. She had many people helping her along the way and was always so grateful of their kindness and generosity. It was hard for her to accept any help from anyone, ever! But, she was able to come to terms that it was going to take a village to fight this battle. It was indeed quite the amazing village she had by her side.
A bucket list ensued and her adventures began! It was just a reminder of her passion and spirit she had for anything she did in life. She knew she was on borrowed time, but that didn’t keep her from living life to the fullest every day. A reminder for all of us that life is short, you should take that vacation that you have been putting off, make memories with your loved ones, and absolutely eat the cake! And the ice cream too!
The Family suggests memorial contributions to be made to any local Animal Shelter or Animal Rescue Group as her love for animals was as deep as her love for her family and friends.
Rocky and all of the family my thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of you. I’ve known Yvonne and Rocky since the Kmart days. Cancer is totally a horrible disease to have to go through but now she’s in a pain free world. Love and hugs to all of you.
I loved seeing Yvonne at the bus office. She always had a kind word and a smile on her face. She was a fighter and we were sad when she could no longer drive the bus. I’m glad she is no longer in pain. I pray her family finds peace in the wonderful memories of her.
Yvonne and I became friends because I was her dental hygienist for years. Every six months we shared some of the greatest stories from raising kids, a sale barn bargain kicking donkey to not returning a ring that was gifted to her. I’m glad a visit with my horses was part of her bucket list
Yvonne was a special person and I will miss her smile ,her laugh and her great stories
Rocky, Im so sorry to hear about Yvonne, she was indeed a special lady. May God wrap his loving arms around you and the family and ease your pain.
Yvonne, was a ray of sunshine from the first day she came into our workplace. She was more spunkier than anything and so funny. She definitely had a nurturing nature about her. I still have the picture of that crazy looking skeleton that sat in the office lobby during Halloween, she loved Halloween lol, that thing use to make me jump 😂. When I was pregnant with my youngest Yvonne was probably just as excited as my own mother and she just adored my little Raina. Thank you for that Yvonne! I appreciate her for always checking in even after she retired. When she called me in March to tell me her cancer returned I could tell in her voice that she felt defeated but then we talked about her accomplishments and all the things that she had done in her life. She was a wonderful person who loved her kids and those grandkids. I am so glad she got to see her daughter get married and be an Involved grandmother. She is in a better place and I hate that I didn’t get a chance to speak with her most recently. I quit beating myself up about it because I did get to speak with her in September and she sounded good. I’m glad to have had a chance to hear her in good spirits. She definitely has earned her wings! Fly high Ms. Lady I will truly miss you 🖤🙏🏾
When I moved to Gardner back in 2020, I quickly became best friends with my sweet neighbor Yvonne across the street. We called each other soul friends. She was such an expected bond I didn’t know I needed & she truly became part of my family. Everyday we saw each other whether it was for coffee with me & the kids, a meal, to share a story I knew would make her laugh, to hear about her busy day, or to simply keep each other company because we just could talk & talk & talk.❤️ She helped me through many hard days & I helped her through many & I would do it all again & again! She became my go to person. The love I grew for this woman just can’t be summed up in a paragraph.🥺
She has a big spot in my heart where she is going to continue to live on. & I continue to hear her words everyday in my head & I promised her I would never stop listening to the advice she gave me & the example she showed me, she’s an inspiration to me. My heart is crushed having to say “see you later”.
Every word of advice, every laugh, every silly moment, every cry session, every hug, every shared meal, birthday & holiday will never be forgotten😢
Don’t get too crazy now up there my sweet friend🥹❤️🙏🏻
I love you so so much beautiful soul friend🥺🥺🥺
Please send me those signs we talked about🥹
I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom. She sounds like an amazing woman. Thinking of you and your family ❤️
I am so sad to hear the passing of Yvonne. She was a wonderful person. Grew up down the street from her family and they were great people. She was loved by so many and will be missed by so many. May you rest in peace dear. Sending lot of prayers to your family.
The love of my life has passed away. She’s at a place where she can breathe walk and has no pain. And we had 20 years together initially and then 20 years apart. When we got back together we asked a good lawyer to give us 20 anything he could. That turned out to be 26 wonderful weeks at the end of her life. We were so thankful for that time together! I’ll join you 1 day my love and as promised I’ll rush to your waiting arms.
My bestie and Golden girl… I miss you so much and out breakfast at IHOP in Roman’s section and our many dinners and so much laughter too at Texas Roadhouse. We love you RIP my friend. Love forever Andrea, Merrick and Olivia
My sister, my best friend, our memories, rest in peace!
