Joan Cross

Joan, age 92, was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She provided a helpful hand to many people through her employment with Visiting Nurses. Joan had a heart for volunteering including working with the homeless and with Insight Women’s Clinic. She was born in Villa Park IL, the only daughter of George and Ruth Cross and had 4 brothers James, George, Paul, and Richard. Joan had 4 children Susan, Steven, Patricia, and Peter by a previous marriage and 5 grandchildren who she loved dearly.
She was proceeded in death by her daughter Patricia, as well as her parents and brothers. Joan peacefully passed at Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence KS in the company of a loving friend

Memorial Services for Joan Marie Cross, 92, Lawrence, will be 11 am, Friday, February 27, 2026, at Grace Presbyterian Church.

Joan contacted me last fall to ask if she could be of use volunteering with Freedom Home Ministry. She prefaced the question by clarifying that she was 92 years old. She joined our group several times and was a blessing and encouragement. What a wonderful reminder that our presence with one another ministers to each other.
I was blessed to share a hot tea and two hour visit and prayer with Joan a couple months ago. Her life story was exactly what I needed to hear to inspire me to continue to walk in faith and persevere through struggles. She prayed with me and for me with Holy Spirit power and shared about writing her “life story”.
Blessed for Joan’s life to have intersected with mine this past year.
May her wisdom, humor and love for Jesus, family and the church body fill your family with peace.
