Lewis Trinidad Nuñez Jr., 50, of Lawrence, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 3:22 a.m. in Texas.
A loving son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend, Lewis will be remembered for his steady presence, generous heart, deep devotion to his family, and playful nature.
Lewis was born on June 20, 1975, in Lawrence, Kansas, to Lewis Trinidad Nuñez, Sr. and Brenda Louise (Brown) Nuñez. He grew up in Lawrence and attended Lawrence High School, forming lifelong friendships and memories in the community he always called home.
Family was the foundation of Lewis’s life. He began his journey into fatherhood with his oldest daughter, Kayleigh Nuñez, who brought him immense pride and joy. He later married Adrienne (Johnson) Nuñez and together they built a family filled with love and laughter. From that union came Olivia Nuñez, Ashlee Nuñez, and Jaylen Nuñez, and he embraced his role as stepfather to Joseph Johnson with the same care and commitment. His children were his greatest accomplishment, and he carried deep love for each of them.
Lewis moved to Texas, after the dissolution of his marriage, where he built a life rooted in hard work and determination. He worked as a bus operator for Cy-Fair Independent School District, operated a chartered limousine, and later became a CDL over-the-road driver. Through long hours and many miles, he demonstrated dedication, resilience, and a strong work ethic, always striving to provide for his children.
Lewis is survived by his parents, Lewis Trinidad Nuñez, Sr. and Brenda Louise (Brown) Nuñez; his sisters Raquel (JyKeith) Thornton, Juanita (Tony) Armstrong, and Sandra Hayes-Coleman; his children; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence from 10:00am – 11:30am. Funeral services will be held immediately after at the same location. Graveside services will be immediately following. He will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence.
Though his time here was far too short, Lewis’s love, strength, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

My condolences to the family of Lewis. Fun to be around and most of all the eating contests we had at family gatherings. He would always win . Lewis is the father of my grandchildren and I appreciate the affection he showed them…. Have a peaceful rest Lewis.
