Janette M. Strong, 82, of Winchester, passed away on August 18, 2026.
Janette was born on February 19, 1944, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Lloyd and Isyla Strong. She was a longtime resident of Rosedale, Kansas, and Oskaloosa, Kansas.
She graduated from Rosedale High School. After high school, she attended Park University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She worked for 20 years in the liquor business with her best friend, Quincy.
She also enjoyed her time as a volunteer firefighter in the state of Missouri.
She had an interest in and enjoyed playing all sports. She was extremely passionate about wildlife, nature, gardening, and rescuing dogs and cats.
Janette was preceded in death by her grandmother, Martha Weber; father, Lloyd Strong; mother, Isyla Strong; brother, Richard Strong; and nephew, Robert Strong.
She is survived by her twin sister, Annette Strong of McLouth, KS; sister, Marlene Clevenger (Jo) of Shawnee, KS; brothers, Lloyd Strong of Folsom, CA, and Dennis Strong (Mary) of Shawnee, KS; sister-in-law, Mellanie Strong of Trenton, MO; and seven nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to LLDog Rescue of Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
Cremation will take place. A celebration of life with a circle of friends will be held at Springer Cemetery in Gilman City, MO. The service date and time are currently pending and will be released by Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home when available.
I am saddened to hear of Janette’s passing. She was a wonderful person and I will miss our talks about animals, Dr. Pol and KU sports. I will miss her greatly and think of her often.
Janette i may not have known you long but you has an impact on my life. You’ve been my favorite since day one. I keep thinking “I need to tell Jannette” and then realize i can’t. If I see that bobcat I’ll send you a picture. You will be missed! I love you!
My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends. I didn’t know Janette but her sister Marlene was one of my best friends back in high school days. Rest in Paradise Janette.

To my cousin and long time buddy who I will miss everyday. She was one of the Jayhawk faithful and always kept in touch. I am so grateful for the time we had.
Auntie J you are missed. To a woman who helped raise me to be the strong woman I have become. I am forever not only your neice but a best friend to you. I know we will see each other again, but not just yet. I’ll keep you with me wherever I go and I’m so thankful you were my aunt and friend. As we would always say – TONS AND BUNCHES MORE!
Will miss you dear friend. Always fun. Always spirited. Enjoyed our conversations and text messages. I will miss sharing memes with you. Such a delight for both of us being able to laugh and poke fun together at the chaos in this world. Baby Jane will sure miss you. She enjoyed your companionship and kindness. Rest well friend. I’ve known Janette since the 1950’s. We shared many memories in friendship, playing softball together and being young adults having fun and
living life to the fullest. Janette is one of those gentle souls with a heart big and pure and a compassion for her animals and her friends. She will be dearly missed but never out of our hearts as she has left so many fond memories. RIP my dear friend, blessings and love.
8/8/88 was the beginning of God-blessed friendship that lasted up until you went to see your maker the other day!!! You were the best ever Janette AND I will truly miss our Bill Self/Jayhawk conversations. Rest well my friend!!! Much love Janette….
