Graveside Services for Melva Kay Hodge, 84, Overbrook, will be 10 am, Monday, August 10, 2026, at Memorial Park Cemetery. A Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
She died August 3, 2026, at Brookside Retirement Community.
My deepest condolences in the death of Kay. She was a sweet woman.
I was fortunate to become friends with Kay at Brookside Assisted Living (BAL) when I visited my mother there. Kay ‘s caring personality made her an easy person to become friends with. I was amazed despite her health problems she was always thinking of others. She was amazing with her embroidery machines making towels for every resident well as Christmas gifts. Her many beautiful towels and items she made often showed her wonderful sense of humor as well as her appreciation of friends and family. Family and friends were very important to her and she shared many fond memories about them. Kay was a strong woman and was proud of her work for Douglas County, especially as the first woman to be on one of the board/councils. She was a good leader and took her role as the BAL seriously running the monthly resident meetings and making certain every BAL resident received a birthday card. She loved a good vanilla milkshake, putting puzzles together, visiting, playing games and making friends and sharing family stories. Kay, you will be missed but always fondly remembered and loved.
