Helen Louise Hodson Bates

Graveside services for Helen Louise Hodson Bates, 92, Lecompton, will be at 11 am Tuesday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton. A visitation will be held from 6-7 pm Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Mrs. Bates died Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Helen was born September 3, 1924, in Lawrence. She was raised on a farm in the Lakeview area. She married Virgil Lee Bates on June 3, 1944. Together they raised five children – three daughters and two sons. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, and her two boys, Gilbert Wayne and Larry Leroy. She leaves behind three daughters, Edna Lee (John) Curran, Judith Ann (John) Bryant, and Rita Marie (Steve) Fisher; nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Hospice, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
