A Celebration of Life for Cody James Young will be at 3PM Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Baker Wetlands Discovery Center with Jill Jarvis, Minister, officiating. Cody passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at his home. Cody was born October 9, 1985, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of James and Linda (Moon) Young.
Cody graduated from Lawrence Free State High School in 2004; from the University of Kansas in 2009 with Bachelor degrees in History and Political Science; and from Keller Graduate School of Business in 2013 with a Masters degree in Accounting. He enjoyed lifeguarding, working at the Douglas County Courthouse, Douglas County Bank and most recently, State Street Bank.
Cody is survived by his parents; a sister: Randi Harms (Rory) and niece, Lillian Harms; two brothers: Jeremy Young and Nick Green (lifelong friend). Other survivors include his grandfather: Duane Moon; aunt: Brenda Hardtarfer (Dan); uncle: Randy Moon (Raelynn); cousins: Brandon Hardtarfer, Jaymie Hardtarfer, and Baylie Moon. Cody was preceded in death by his grandmother: Dorothy Moon and grandparents: Cy and Ruth Young.
Cody loved being an uncle to his niece, Lillian. He was frequently a volunteer at the Baker Wetlands Discovery Center; he enjoyed sharing his love of nature with others and easily engaged visitors in conversation.
Cody deeply loved his pets and had a variety over the years, including Muddy, the salamander; Sparky, the lizard; rabbits, especially Peppermint; Kitty, his cat; and most recently, his rescue pup from the Lawrence Humane Society. He loved to cave with his Dad and best friend, Nick Green; and hike, especially in the Colorado mountains. Cody traveled extensively, his favorite vacation was spent exploring Civil War sites back east; history was his greatest love.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Baker Wetlands Discovery Center or Lawrence Humane Society, in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
