Robert “Bob” Monroe Sykes, Sr., 80, Lawrence, died Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living.
He was born July 30, 1938, in Brandon, Mississippi, the son of Tobie and Frances (Kahn) Sykes. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College and a Master’s degree from the University of Houston. He also attended and taught at the University of Kansas.
Bob served in the Navy from 1962 to 1966. He was a real estate broker and property manager.
He married Sallye Lou Atkinson in 1966 in Houston, Texas. She survives in the home.
Other survivors include sons, Toby Sykes and John Sykes; grandchildren, Jack, Dominick, Anabelle, and Gracelyn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Sykes and sister, Lucretia Connell.

So sorry for your loss in precious Bob. So many great memories as a new agent bringing offers into Heritage and how meticulously and diligently he’d review them..with a question or two to stump the “greenie” (me!) but seldom could! Hence, I believe we gained great respect for each other in the industry..those were great times. Have always loved your family.. I am so touched at how you spent your every available moment with your husband and father at Pioneer Ridge.. and was touched by my random visits. You exuded “family first”. May God’s great comfort envelop you in the days ahead! Bob was a giant to me..and I am grateful for his presence in my life❤️
Sallye, John and Toby…my brother (Pete) let me know the sad news of Bob’s passing. I am remembering him and all of you and am sorry we lost touch. Nancy and I send our deepest sympathy to all.
