Amy Cherie Blaufelder

On June 23, 2025, with heavy hearts yet loving hands, the family of their beloved Amy Cherie (Auchard) Blaufelder lifted and gifted her to horizons beyond. She long will be remembered for her smile, her presence, the sound of her laughter, her lively sense of humor, clear mind and fierce determination in times of necessity, bravery when dealing with her illness, patience and clarity when teaching her skills to new learners, enjoyment of friends of diverse beliefs, faiths, and heritage, and her cravings for Thai food (even though she was the only member of her family who never lived in Thailand).  She held unwavering love for her two sons, and her concerns were always for others’ well-being …including stray animals.  She loved long walks by the lakeside, travel, had an uncanny sense of direction, and memory of every phone number.  She was versatile, whether designing jewelry, or using her jewelry-smith training to build a chandelier, or driving farm equipment, laying house roofing or tile, setting in windows, or, although left-handed, bowing with her right hand as an accomplished violinist.

She was born August 5, 1969, in Ft. Belvoir, VA.  After graduation from Malabar High School in Mansfield, OH, she attended the University of Cincinnati for a year.  She completed her Fine Arts degree at the University of Kansas.  She married Erik Blaufelder on May 26, 1990, and managed the books for their construction business while taking post-graduate courses in accounting at the University of Kansas.  In more recent years, she has lived in the home with her two sons, and has been accountant for Mooberry Financial Management in Lawrence, KS, who she sometimes called her “second family,” .
Preceding Amy were her nephew Clayton Wesley Miller in 2014, and father Bruce David Auchard in 2018.  Survivors include two sons, August K. Blaufelder and Kyan A. Blaufelder of Oskaloosa, KS; her mother, Carol A. (Schowengerdt) Auchard of Oskaloosa, KS; Amy’s brother Greg A. Auchard (wife Sarah) and family (Audrey and Amelia) of Bellville, OH, Greg’s son Nick Auchard of Sanford, NC, a nephew-by-claim Jerrard Tucker of Wooster, OH, and niece-by-claim Alicia Tucker of Dacula, GA; Amy’s sister Kerry Auchard (husband Bruce Miller) and their family (Cole and Emmarie) of Kansas City, MO; and Amy’s sister Kymari Auchard-Smith (husband Grant) and their family (Cameron, Rachel and Conner) of Overland Park, KS.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation or Jefferson County Home Health and Hospice sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home P.O. Box 1260 Lawrence, KS 66044.
A casual open house to celebrate Amy C. (Auchard) Blaufelder’s life will be held Saturday, August 9 from 12 to 3 PM at Chrisman Manor, 13925 54th St., Oskaloosa, Kansas. Come at your leisure to enjoy food, music, conversation, warm memories, lively stories; and to share tears and laughter. RSVP to 816/305–8608 is appreciated, but not required. Everyone is welcome.”

Messages & Condolences

From Susan Young...

Amy was a true friend (and coworker). And even a month after she has passed, I cannot stop thinking about what a smart, sunshiny, cheerful, loving, and charismatic person we have all lost. She left behind a wonderful and perfect mother Carol, her sweet young boys who are now men, her two super loving sisters Kerry and Kym, and a brother Greg, and her best friend Heather, whom she cherished.

What a bright, beautiful, classy person Amy was! Our hearts are broken to lose a treasure such as Amy.

I became friends with Amy while working together at Mooberry Financial Management. She was always there for me to show me the ropes, with patience. We shared many laughs together, 3 years of laughs. Every day, she greeted me at work with, “Good morning, Sunshine.”

Her family was always the topic of conversation – her pride in talking about Augie, her vacation road trips with Kyan, her love and caring for her mom and siblings…was everything.

Amy had chemo on Mondays. After chemo, she went back to work. She worked tirelessly through pain and fatigue. But she never complained. She worked right up until the end.

Until the end, I will never forget her.

I love you, Amy. Pew pew.

From Susie & Scott McKinney...

First Scott then I met Amy through work. Both of us were immediately pulled in by Amy’s welcoming smile, twinkling eyes & quirky sense of humor. Working together was always fun & highly productive…and served as the basis of treasured friendships that existed outside of work and gave me a kind & loving support sister living & loving life through the harsh realities of metastatic cancer.
Love ya, Ames…. Hugs to Auggie & Ky plus all her family and friends who feel like there is a missing puzzle piece in their lives as do we.

From Janet Schowengerdt...

Amy was always a person who lit up a room with her vibrant personality — I remember growing up and having the occasional family visit and always admiring what a fun personality Amy had. The world was a better place for having her in it.

From Megan Poindexter...

Amy was a critical– yet mostly unseen (we emailed/ texted/ and phoned each other weekly)– member of the team at the Senior Resource Center. I was so lucky to have Amy assigned to be our bookkeeper through Mooberry. Amy was my ally. We worked closely together to ensure the financial management of SRC was solid, and our books were always clean and tidy. Our annual audits were a breeze, thanks to Amy’s diligence, dedication, skills, and patience. (Patience with me specifically, because I always had a lot of questions and she provided me with sound education!) Her amazing brain astounded me!!!!
But beyond that professional relationship, Amy became my friend outside of our work. Ultimately, we shared the bond of cancer treatment. The times I spent with her in the Cancer Center lobby while we were both waiting our turn for infusions was precious and important to me.
I miss her so much.
She is in my heart, as is her whole family.

From Judy...

My name is Judy. I live in Amy’s great grandparents home in Independence, Mo. We savedthe farmhouse from being torn down. When I started doing research on the old farmhouse I found out about Amy’s mom Carol. She was so nice & helpful to give me copies of so many photos & information about the Schowengerdt family. I got to meet Carol & her daughters. It was such a fun time. I only got to spend time with Amy on 4 occasions. She was so pretty like the others & a very interesting person. When I read her obituary I realized we had some neat things in common. Wish I could have gotten to spend more time with her to share creative ideas.

From Chris Dune...

As far back as I can remember those days spent in the house on Laurelwood, I remember her always laughing. She was, as all the girls were, one of sisters. I’m at a loss for words as I read about her passing. Our hearts and prayers go out to her sons, and all of the family during this time.

From Jennie (Geiger) Burks...

Dearest Auchard family,
My heart is breaking for all of you right now. I remember
meeting this lovely soul for the first time in junior high school, and boy could she light up a room! I loved her dearly from the moment I met her. She was the sweetest and most non judgemental human being I have ever known to this day. It was so easy to look up to her, because she possessed all of those great qualities that most people merely aspired to have. For selfish reasons, I always wished she hadn’t graduated early, just because I wanted that time senior year to have fun with her! She always made us laugh. 😊
I will always cherish those wonderful memories.
I had the pleasure of getting to know Greg as well, and would see him from time to time when I worked as a nurse in the ER back in Mansfield. An equally special person! Greg and family, please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers. May you all find some peace and comfort at this extremely difficult time.

From Timothy & Yolanda...
