Funeral services for George McGarland France III, 87, Lawrence, will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church.
Mr. France died Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.
He was born October 8, 1931, in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of George McGarland France Jr. and Aneda Erva Tarrer France. He graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in science, majoring in chemistry.
Mr. France served in the United States Army during the Korean War attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. After being discharged from the Army, he served in the Army Reserves achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Mr. France loved talking to people and enjoyed jazz music, football and basketball, and photography. He was a member of a book club and attended Trinity Episcopal Church. He was very charismatic, charming, and a true gentleman.
He married Rhuea Marie Patton in 1959 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

M. of Morris Plains, NJ; grandchildren, Kathryn France of Morris Plains, NJ, Cameron Johnson and wife Tiffany of Irving, TX, Andre Davis and wife Jennifer of South Orange, NJ; great grandchildren, Courtney Johnson of Irving, TX, Quenton Davis of South Orange, NJ, Sydney Davis of South Orange, NJ; brother, Craig Patton and wife Sarah of Oklahoma City, OK; aunt, Jacquline Tarrer of New York City, NY; cousins, Cicero Fain of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Wallace Hayden of Maryland; sister-in-laws, Maggie Louie Johnel of Temple, TX, and Beverly Smith of Oklahoma City, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. France will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
