No public services will be held for Barbara E. Sult, 70, Lawrence. Private interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Sult died Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 8, 1940, near Wakenda, Mo., the daughter of George Otto and Ruth Elizabeth Saunders Bahr. She grew up in Carrollton, Mo., and moved to Kansas City, Mo. in 1958, and later to Lawrence in 1975.
Mrs. Sult joined the Lawrence Police Department in 1977 and received numerous commendations during her tenure. She retired as a detective in 1989 due to Multiple Sclerosis. She had previously worked for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lawrence Lodge #2, and the first woman to be the director of the Kansas Branch of International Arson Investigators. She was also a member of the Carrollton Rebekah Lodge, and a Royal Neighbor.
She married Charles E. Sult on July 23, 1960. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Curtis Sult, Topeka; a daughter, Rita K. Sult, Lawrence; and a brother, Freddie Bahr and wife AnnaLee, Carrollton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Jackie Bahr.
Per Mrs. Sult’s wishes, there are to be no flowers, and memorial contributions may be made to the Fraternal Order of Police Lawrence Lodge #2, P.O. Box 272, Lawrence, KS, 66044, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
