Erma A. Bruns

Funeral services for Erma A. Bruns, 95, Lawrence, will be at 10 am Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, with the Rev. Brian Elster officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Erma died Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at her home.

She was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Acme, Kan., the daughter of Otis Augustus and Emily Josephine Harrison Sexton. She attended schools in Solomon. Erma retired as the office administrator for USS Agrichemical. She was a member and past president of the Lawrence Women’s Bowling Association, a member of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers and the VFW Auxiliary, and a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling and going to tournaments, Coachmen RV camping rallies, traveling, square dancing, and time spent with her family.

Erma married Kenneth Ivan ‘Bud’ Bruns on July 7, 1956, in Abilene, Kan. He preceded her in death in 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, LCDR Brian K. Bruns, her first husband, Alvin LeRoy Engle, and seven siblings, Clayton Sexton, Dora Darling, Goldia Miller, Mildred Lankford, Floyd Sexton, Twila Stammeyer, and Larena Sexton. Survivors include four children, Randy Engle and wife Connie, Kansas City, Mo., Sharon Rose and husband Monte, Lawrence, Rusty Bruns and wife Sheila, Baldwin City, and Dean Bruns and wife Julie, McPherson; seven grandchildren, Shawn and Joshua Engle, Kelle Rose, Laura Rose Clawson, and Cody, Cameron, and Caden Bruns; and three great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 8 am to 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 2 to 4 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to Visiting Nurses/Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church Pet Pantry, in care of the funeral home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.
