Services for Kenneth Daniels, 93, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday June 28th at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Please wear casual clothes, as those that knew him know he was not one to dress in much other than a western shirt, jeans, and his boots along with his cap. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery- no service planned at the cemetery.
Mr. Daniels passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at his daughter’s home.
He was born November 3, 1924 in Pleasant Grove, Kansas. He went through 8th grade in the one room country school. He worked various country jobs until enlisting in the Army during World War II. Kenneth served as an artillery specialist from 1943 to 1946.
He was married to Alma (Corp) Daniels for 49 years before she passed in 2001. Survivors include a daughter, Julie, Lawrence; four grandsons – Ross, Horseheads, New York; Ryan, Kyle, and Justin, all of Lawrence. Other nephews and nieces also survive. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and sisters.
Kenneth, known as Kenny or Danny, worked at the Kansas Color Press for 30 years and worked other various jobs following, including driving for the Senior Center.
Kenneth and Alma were founding members of the Douglas County Trail Riders and were active members for many years. Horses were a large part of their lives along with their daughter’s. Horse shows through KSHSC, Trail Riders and 4-H took up most of their time during the summers. Kenneth was active in all his grandchildren’s lives including learning and watching the sport of hockey; sitting through hot Kansas summer nights watching baseball (coffee and lawn chair always in tow!); and watching bowling.
Family will receive friends from 4-5:30 on Wednesday, June 27 at the funeral home.
