Roscoe F. Husted

Graveside services for Roscoe F. Husted, 95, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sutton Cemetery in rural Douglas County.

Mr. Husted died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at his home.

He was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Lawrence, the son of George W. and Susan Bell Doll Husted. He attended Lawrence schools, and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1934.

Mr. Husted worked at Kansas Color Press, Hercules Powder Plant, and retired from Lawrence Paper Company after 32 years of service. His homestead where he was raised is still standing at the end of North Michigan St. He enjoyed working on cars and racing them. He also was an avid gardener, and always had a large garden each year.

He married Lavere Sutton on Aug. 11, 1938, in Wichita. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Dolores Kilburn and husband Dean, Lawrence, Joyce Bowen and husband Charlie, Perry, and Donna Kilburn, Lawrence; a son, Gary and wife Patty, Lawrence; 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Ronald Dean.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
