Christopher Glen “Chris” Parish

Inurnment service for Christopher Glen “Chris” Parish, 25, Lawrence will be at 10am Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Parish died Monday, August 29, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 15, 1985 at Ft. Leavenworth, KS the son of Bobby G. Parish, Jr. and Karen M. Linsey Pitts.

Mr. Parish graduated Lawrence High School in 2004. He was a certified welder and certified in safety from Husqvarna Chainsaw Co. He worked as a foreman for Lawrence Tree service. He was an outdoorsman, avid camper, and fisherman. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include his father and step-mother, Bobby Glen and Tanya Parish Jr. of Ft. Worth, TX; mother and step-father Karen Marie and Michael Pitts, of Lawrence; brother, Thomas Parish of Lawrence, Fiancé, Lotoya Todd of Lawrence; Aunt, Becky Parish of Lawrence; cousins Nichole, Hailey, and Drake; grandparents, Bobby and Mary A. Parish SR. of Lawrence; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins from North Carolina.

Frances Snavely

A funeral service for Frances Snavely will be on Wednesday, August 31st, 2011, at 10AM, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Brother Andy Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Frances Snavely was born 9 November 1916 in Lamar, Colorado to George Samuel Litz and Nellie Ann Porter Litz, and died 28 August 2011 at Brandon Woods. She was 94.

Frances was raised with her brothers Cecil Miller and Jim Litz, and her sisters Pat and Betty, all now deceased. Because of her father’s line of work, she fondly remembered as a girl living in numerous locations in eastern Colorado, and western and central Kansas. She attended elementary school in Larned and McPherson Kansas, before moving to Lawrence in early September, 1925. Here she attended the newly opened Woodlawn School and then Burnett School at Midland. She also attended Lawrence Junior High School. She married first George Faler. They later divorced. She then married Elgin W. Snavely. He died 24 October 1978. Frances had five children: George “Sonny” Faler, Audrey Hahn, Joan Standfield, who preceded her in death, Sharon Snavely, and Steve Snavely. She had a total of ten grandchildren, and many, many descendants through them.

Frances was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1968, and has often spoken with folks about the Bible and the good news about God’s Kingdom.

She had been a resident at Lakeview Manor and Brandon Woods for the past decade or so, and her family appreciates all the care and good deeds by many at those facilities.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Dr. Hillel Unz

Graveside services for Dr. Hillel Unz, 82, Lawrence, were held on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at B’nai Israel Cemetery, Eudora, with Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel officiating.

Dr. Unz died Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 15, 1929, in Darmstadt, Germany, the son of Moshe and Rivka Unz.

He moved to Haifa, Israel, with his family in 1932, and graduated from the Reali High School, Haifa, in 1947.

Dr. Unz served in the Israeli Defense Forces during the Israel war of Independence (1947-1949).
He received his B.S. (Electronics) degree in 1953, from the Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa. He received his M.S. degree in 1954 and his Ph.D. degree in 1957, both from the Electrical Engineering Department, University of California-Berkeley.

He moved to Lawrence, Kansas, in 1957. Since that year, Dr. Unz has been on the staff of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, University of Kansas, Lawrence, first as an Assistant Professor, and since 1962 as a full Professor of Electrical Engineering. He retired after forty years in 1997. In the following years, he continued his research.

He married Ruth Adam in 1960. They had three children. They divorced. He married Carolyn J. Graham in 1975. They divorced.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maya.

Survivors include a daughter, Tali Unz, California, a son, Danny Unz and wife Ariela, Lawrence, Kansas, and their children: Alon, Amir and Eyal.

Ella L. Farmer

Funeral services for Ella L. Farmer, 62, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Victory Bible Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Farmer died Thursday, August 26, 2011, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, Kansas.
She was born June 25, 1949 at her home in Webster County, Mississippi, the daughter of Wilson and Jimmie Mae Minor Farmer.

She graduated from Davidson High School in 1969. Ms. Farmer was a homemaker. She attended Church of Christ of Lawrence, KS and was a member of International Free and Accepted Modern Masons and Order of the Eastern Star Andrew Nette Daniels Grand Chapter. She was a former Douglas County Senior Services volunteer.

Survivors include a daughter Sonia Farmer, fiancé Gary, and son Rodney Farmer. One brother Troy Farmer Sr, wife Lera of Chicago, Illinois. Five sisters, Georgia Roberson, husband John, Wille Mae Kimbrough, husband James, both of Chicago, Illinois, Lucy Wilma Jean Hervey and Levonia Shepard both of Watervalley, Mississippi and Minister Laura Bettye Cruise, and husband Stephen of Belleville, Illinois. Seven grandchildren, Monechia Fisher, Tiffany and De-Janelle Lockett, Justin Bethea, RaShaun Farmer, Michael Farmer, Kamarre Farmer and two great grand children, Amani Canady and Jordan Fisher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Esther Lee Ford and a brother Anderson Farmer, a daughter Latonya Farmer died earlier in a house fire January 17, 1993.

Friends may call the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home Friday noon to 8 p.m. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the funeral at the church.

Bryan C. Jobe

Funeral services for Bryan C. Jobe, 41, Eudora, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eudora Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Wood officiating. A committal service will follow at Eudora City Cemetery.

Mr. Jobe died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.

He was born June 16, 1970, in Orlando, Fla., the son of Jerry and Dottie Jobe. He graduated from Olathe North High School in 1988, and later attended Emporia State University.

Mr. Jobe worked as an information technology consultant, and also worked for the family’s construction business. He was a member of Eudora Baptist Church, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed playing cards and video games.

He married Bobbi Bonebrake on Nov. 8, 1997, in Overland Park. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Dakota Jobe and Oliver Yale Jobe, of the home; a daughter, Anika Jobe, of the home; his parents, Summerfield, Fla.; a sister, Dyna Fitzmaurice and husband Jamie, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; and an honorary brother, Yale Rendleman, Detroit.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Eudora Baptist Church.

Arthur Robert “Bob” Mull

Memorial services for Arthur Robert “Bob” Mull, 88, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory, with the Revs. Bob Giffin and Don Dunn officiating.

Mr. Mull died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Apr. 17, 1923, in Lawrence, the son of Charles Coleman and Mabel Marguerite King Mull. He attended Liberty Memorial High School, and later served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, landing in Guadalcanal in Aug. 1942.

Mr. Mull was a brakeman for the Union Pacific Railroad, and retired in 1982 after 42 years of service. He was a member of First Nazarene Church, and Alford-Clarke Post #852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed reading, music, playing the harmonica, genealogy, and spending time with family.

He married Wanda R. Sweet on Sept. 15, 1944, in Hutchinson. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Roy Mull, Perry, and Chris Mull and wife Chrisy, Merriam; two daughters, Roxie Lyle and husband Jonathan, Merriam, and Heather Mull, Lawrence; a sister, Marion Vausbinder, Newbury Park, Calif.; ten grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Richard Roderick Pine

Memorial graveside services for Richard Roderick Pine, 91, Lawrence, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Pine died Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.

He was born May 17, 1920 in Lawrence, the son of Wilbur Columbus and Katherine Margaret Purel Pine. He graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1938 and earned a certificate in electrical engineering from the University of Kansas.

Mr. Pine served in the United States Navy during WWII as chief radioman onboard the USS Spica. After the war, he opened Pine’s Radio and TV Service in Eudora before moving the business to Lawrence where he operated for over 34 years. Before retirement, he worked several years in the research and development department of Reuter Organ Company. He enjoyed Lawrence High and KU sports, gardening and coffee with friends. He was a former member of the Lions Club and Cosmos International.

He married Georgia Nell Phillips in 1947. She died in 1990.

Survivors include three sons, Richard R. Pine Jr. and wife Cynthia of Pinckney, MI, Randall C. Pine of Lawrence, and Russell M. Pine and wife Marcia of Pleasant Hill, MO. Grandchildren include Nathan Pine, Amanda Pine, Matthew Pine, Breanna Kelly, Mason Pine, Russell Pine, Jr. and Jeffrey Allen Pine, and two great-grandchildren, Henry Tyler Pine and Hoyt Mason Kelly.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Phillip and William Pine.
