Funeral services for Tifani Delores Cutty, 25, Lawrence, will be at 7:30pm Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Ms. Cutty died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at her home.

She was born December 14, 1985 in Lawton OK, the daughter of Tamie Simonsen and John Paul Cutty. Tifani attended Perry High School and completed some online classes.

She Married David Matter in December, 20, 2003 in Lecompton. They later divorced.

Tifani worked for Doug and Marge Lawrence as a behavioral therapist, working mostly with children and young adults with autism.

Surviving family includes her beautiful daughter Journee Matter, mother; Tamie Simonsen and husband Timothy, Perry; father John Paul Cutty and wife Daisy, Lawton, OK; one brother, Timothy Seigler, Bartlesville, OK; one sister, Tisha Fielding, Perry, two nieces, Khloey and Stallina Seigler, Bartlesville , and four nephews, Dustin and Tavor Seigler, Bartlesville, Sterling and Wesley Fielding, Perry.

Friends may call noon to 8 p.m. Monday, and 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jamie M. Barkes Pursley

A Celebration of Life service for Jamie M. Barkes Pursley, 35, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeff Armstrong of Bowling Green, Ky. officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the Holiday Inn Holidome, 6th & Fairlawn, Topeka.

Jamie died Tuesday, Mar. 29, 2011, at her home, after a long battle with breast cancer.

She was born Dec. 11, 1975, in Topeka, the daughter of David M. and Kathy J. Knutson Barkes. She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School, and later from Kansas State University, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.

Jamie was a project manager for Flinthills Construction, a company owned by her family. She previously had worked at Ramada Inn in Topeka, Express Personnel in Topeka, and Modis Staffing Agency in Overland Park. She attended Free Methodist Church, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, shopping, tennis, photography, travel, and camping and boating. She maintained a website and conducted public speaking to raise awareness of breast cancer.

She married Aaron W. Pursley on Oct. 4, 2003, in Topeka. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kayden Grace Pursley, of the home; a brother, Scott M. Barkes and fiancée Heather Frisbie, Kansas City, Mo.; and her parents, Tecumseh.

Gertrude C. “Trudy” Bohanon

Funeral services for Gertrude C. “Trudy” Bohanon, 85, Lawrence, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Kent Winters-Hazelton officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mrs. Bohanon died Monday, Mar. 28, 2011, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar.

She was born Aug. 21, 1925, in Philadelphia, the daughter of Henry and Sarah Rock Pfeil. She graduated from Philadelphia High School for Girls, where she participated in the select orchestra. She later attended Methodist Hospital Nursing School in Philadelphia.

Mrs. Bohanon was a registered nurse, and served through the Methodist Church as a missionary nurse in the Tahlequah, Okla. area. She also served as a public health nurse in Tex. and Okla. She was employed at John Seely Hospital in Galveston, Tex., and at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for several years, before concluding her career at Topeka State Hospital. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women’s Club, the Christian Women’s Club, and the Kansas Nurses Association. She enjoyed music, singing, writing poems and short stories, and cooking.

She married Jacob S. Bohanon. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include four children, John Gerald “Jerry” Pinder and David Charles Bohanon, both of Lawrence, Melanie M. Daniel and husband Darryl, Phoenix, and Hank Steven Bohanon and wife Men-Jia, Chicago; and five grandchildren, Emily Claire, Adam Guy, Madison Grace, and Hillary Jane Daniel, and Henry Bohanon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Matilda Shain.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Burt Evans

Private services for Burt Evans, 88, Lawrence will be held at a later date.

He died March 23, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Evans was born October 20, 1922 in Atlantic City, NJ, the son of Frank and Mabel Evans.

Burt graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1940. He went on to earn his BS in Electrical Engineering at Duke University in 1948. In addition to owning his own electronic sales company, Mr. Evans worked for Atlantic City Electric Co., Westinghouse, BP Oil, and he retired from the Naval Ship Systems Engineering Station at Philadelphia, PA in 1994.

He enlisted in the US Army Air Force and was a B-17 bomber co-pilot in WWII. After being wounded on his second mission, he then returned to combat and completed 30 missions with the 95th Bomb Group, flying out of Horham, England.

Mr. Evans married Eileen Foley in 1960 in Camden, NJ. She preceded him in death in 2003.

Survivors include a son, Joseph Evans and wife Kirsten, two grandchildren Katie and Will Evans, and one great-granddaughter, Marlowe Evans, all of Lawrence; one brother, Frank Evans of Atlantic City, NJ.

Diane Helen Zumwalt

No services will be held for Diane Helen Zumwalt-Dorsey, 72, Lawrence.

Mrs. Zumwalt-Dorsey died Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 20, 1938 in New York City, NY, the daughter of Roger and Eleanor Edore Lathrop. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in Wichita Falls, TX in 1957 and earned a B.A. at Kansas State University in 1990.

Mrs. Zumwalt-Dorsey worked as a writer in many fields although her main focus was in public relations. She was a Christian, and enjoyed reading, dancing, watching old movies, and taking care of animals.

She married Robert E. Zumwalt, they divorced in 1988, and he died in 2005. She married Patrick Dorsey, he died in 2009.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Leslie Zumwalt-Golden and her husband Roger, Warrior, AL, Barbara Goydas and her husband Michael, East Sandwich, Mass.; 3 grandchildren, Christopher Golden and wife Jennifer, Palm Beach, FL, Robert Goydas and Andrew Goydas, East Sandwich, Mass.; and a brother, Richard Lathrop and wife Andrea, Lancaster, CA. She also was a wonderful mother and grandmother to the Dorsey family.

The family suggests memorials to the donor’s local Humane Society.

Sandra H. Gray

A memorial visitation for Sandra “Sandy” H. Gray, 70, Lawrence, will be Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.

Mrs. Gray died Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Sandy was born October 14, 1940 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of Peter John and Rose Sakulsky Kraus.

Mrs. Gray had retired from Bendix-King Radio a branch of Allied Signal.

She married Charles “Charlie” William Gray, May 18, 1961 in Colorado Springs, CO, he survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Miles Gray, of Lawrence; a daughter, Amber Wolf and husband, Mark, of Lawrence; a step-daughter, Tammy Sue Page and husband John, of Camp Point, Illinois; five grandchildren, Taylor Gray, Dakota Gray, Miller Wolf, Heather Large, and Mike Large; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

M. Kathleen Hodges

Graveside memorial services for M. Kathleen Hodges, 88, Bel Air, Maryland, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lawrence, with the Rev. Dr. Gary W. Teske officiating.

Mrs. Hodges died Monday, Mar. 21, 2011.

She was born Mar. 12, 1923, in Lawrence, the daughter of George and Kathryn McCall Robson. She graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1940.

She was a homemaker, and a member of Christ our King Presbyterian Church in Bel Air. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter Q, the Harford Co. MD Garden Club, the Retired Officer’s Wives Club, and a past volunteer chairman for the American Red Cross at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. She enjoyed bridge, theater, and singing.

She married Maj. Gen. Warren D. Hodges on Apr. 25, 1943, in Lawrence. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Elizabeth Kendrick.

Survivors include a son Richard W. Hodges and wife Janet, Joppa, MD.; a daughter, Wanda K. Strange and husband Jack, Basehor; a sister, Leah Torres, Alamagordo, N.M.; two brothers-in-law, Lt. Col. Erv Hodges and wife Shirley, Lawrence, and Dr. Merle A. Hodges and wife Nancy, Salina; a sister-in-law, Leta Percival and husband Ivan, Lawrence; six grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

Robert Steven “Steve” Smith

Funeral services with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical and United States Air Force Honors for Robert Steven “Steve” Smith, 50, Lecompton, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mustard Seed Church, with Department Chaplain Rev. Paul Taylor and Chaplains Rev. Tim Moulett and Capt. Ben Hayden officiating. Cremation is planned following the services.

Mr. Smith died Monday, Mar. 21, 2011, at his home.

He was born Sept. 21, 1960, in Plattsburg, N.Y., the son of Robert Elmer and Anna Lois Hughes Smith. He graduated from high school in Sumpter, S.C. He joined the United States Air Force in 1981 and later joined the United States Army, before returning to the Air Force. He served during Operations Desert Storm, Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and New Dawn. He had attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant, and was scheduled to be promoted to Chief Master Sergeant.

He was employed by the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical as an engineer/EMT-I, with 20 years of service. He enjoyed firearms and his quarter horse.

Survivors include two sons, Joshua Smith, Ottawa, and Chance Smith, Topeka; his parents, Osage City; a brother, Gary Smith, Berryton; a sister, Lara Tauck, Ekalaka, Mont.; five grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews.

Friend may call from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mustard Seed Church, with honors provided by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.

Rex A. Ferrett

Graveside memorial services with military honors for Rex A. Ferrett, 61, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 22, 2011, at Oak Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Don Ogden officiating.

Mr. Ferrett died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Leavenworth.

He was born Dec. 5, 1948, in Vanderbilt, Michigan, the son of William and Ruby Holborn Ferrett. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked for the City of Lawrence Street Department for several years before becoming disabled. He was a lifetime member of the Alford-Clarke Post 852 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lawrence.

He married Carol Austin on Dec. 16, 1977, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Toni Proper, Whittemore, Mich.; a brother, Mel Ferrett, Davison, Mich.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Les Ferrett.

Dorothy M. Ellis

Graveside services for Dorothy M. Ellis, 85, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hartford Cemetery near Hartford, Kan.

Miss Ellis died Monday, Mar. 14, 2011, at The Windsor of Lawrence.

She was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Americus, Kan., the daughter of Elmer and Florence Magee Ellis. She graduated from Emporia High School

Miss Ellis worked as a clerk/typist in Amarillo and Dallas before moving to Kansas City, Mo. She worked for the Social Security Administration for 16 years before retiring in 2008 and moving to Lawrence.

Survivors include two sisters, Joyce Friesen and husband Ben, Lawrence, and Wilma Louvier, Harrisonville, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
