Graveside services for David Robert “Bob” Perkins, 89, Lawrence, will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence. The Reverend Doctor Peter Luckey will officiate.
Mr. Perkins died May 28, 2011 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. He was born June 1, 1921 in Lawrence, the son of David Sanders and Elsie Belle Watson Perkins. He graduated from Lawrence Memorial High School.
He was a farmer in the Eudora and Wellsville areas. He served on the Miami County Farm Bureau Board of Directors as well as the Miami County Committee of the United States Department of Agriculture. After retiring from farming, he moved to Lawrence. He worked as a field assistant for the USDA Service Center in Lawrence from 1989-2004.
He married Betty Jo Wilson on December 16, 1942 in Olathe. She preceded him in death on January 15, 2010.
Mr. Perkins was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Perkins and Malcolm Perkins, four sisters, Mildred Smith, Velma Snyder, Frances Childs, and Martha Lou Robb.
Survivors include two sons, Perry Perkins and wife Joyce of Lawrence, and Jim Perkins and wife Brenda of Kansas City, MO., a sister, Jean Winters of Perry, three grandchildren, Laura Sampson and husband Cecil, Kimberly Davis and husband Jim, Mike Perkins and wife Jessie, eight great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Lloyd Wilson and wife Colleen, and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where family will receive them from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Presbyterian Manor and the Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation, and Hospice Care, sent in care of the funeral home.
