Services for Margaret “Joanne” Powell, 88, Lone Star, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Powell died Sunday, July 2, 2017, in Eudora.
She was born August 18, 1928, in Tonganoxie, the daughter of Merle Glen and Mary Mabel Gallagher Ridgway. She moved to Lawrence at age 6 and went on to graduate from Liberty Memorial High School. She then moved to Lone Star in 1964.
Mr. and Mrs. Powell owned and operated the Dari Treat in Eudora. She and her husband purchased land in Eudora and built the Grandview Trailer Court in 1970. She also worked as an inspector at Aeroquip, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lawrence, Beta Sigma Phi, Preceptor Gamma Chapter in Lawrence, and a woman’s bowling team.
She married Wayne D. Powell May 4, 1964 in Miami, Oklahoma. He died February 17, 2015.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia “Pam” Hadl (Jim Hadl) of Eudora , Janet Spring (Dennis) of Eudora; step son, Rex Powell (Marie Alice L’Heureux) of Lawrence; step daughter, Taunya Reusch (John) of Lawrence; brother, Willard Ridgway (Wilma) of Baldwin City; sister, Merlene Avery of Lawrence; grandchildren, Kelly Long (Derrick), Matt Spring (Sarah), Jerry Hadl (Annie), Brad Hadl (Stacey Herschell), Kari Hadl all of Eudora; step grandchildren, Darren Waisner (Fitz), Devin Waisner (Amy), Cicely Thornton (Andy), Alexis Powell, Damion Powell, Anthony Johnson-Powell; and 18 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Wayne and Damon Ridgway.
Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Visiting Nurses and Visiting Nurses Hospice, sent in care of the funeral home.
