Marquita (Mark) Christy

Funeral services for Marquita (Mark) Christy, 89, Lecompton, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lecompton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Billie Blair officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow the service at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton. Mark died Monday, Sept. 14, 2015, at her home.

She was born Friday, Oct. 30, 1925, in Arcadia, Kan., the daughter of Earl Franklin and Nettie Elizabeth Terrill Pickel. She was raised and attended schools in the Fort Scott area. Mark was a supervisor at Hallmark Cards, Inc., and retired after 28 years of service. She was a board member of AARP Chapter 1696, lifelong member of Lecompton Historical Society, member of Lecompton United Methodist Church, past president of The Sunshine Club, and a member of Goldenrods. She enjoyed traveling much of the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe, playing cards, and doing puzzles. She volunteered for many community service events sponsored by the church. She was an inspiration to everyone she met, and was known for her strong, loving hugs.

She married Joe D. Christy in 1935, a marriage that spanned more than 52 years. He preceded her in death in 1993. Survivors include a son, Dean Christy and wife Jackie, Lecompton; a sister, Violet Brynds, Lawrence; a brother, Jim Pickel and wife Vicki, Lawrence; two grandsons, Aaron Kaser and wife Jennie, Lecompton, and Rob Kaser and wife Aamyie, Blue Ridge, Ga.; three great grandchildren, Christjen, Hunter, and Parker Schmidt; and the extended family she dearly loved, including daughter Linda Ricks and husband Steve, Blanchard, Okla., son Dan Pollman, Lecompton, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
