Roxie Sumner, 53, Lecompton, lost her fight with cancer in the early hours of Sunday, Feb.16th, 2020. She was born in Topeka, KS. and lived her entire life in Lecompton. She was the daughter of Gerald Powell and Mary Walter Powell. They both preceded her in death.
Roxie graduated from Perry Lecompton High School in 1984. After high school she was employed by Reser’s Fine Foods for several years where she met the love of her life, Teddy Sumner. They were joined in marriage in 1996. Later she was employed by the Kansas Turnpike Authority for many years.
Roxie was a huge race fan and raced street stock cars at Topeka Raceway for a number of years.
She is survived by her husband Teddy of the home. Roxie had 2 sons, Jordan Sumner of the home, and Teddy Sumner of Lawrence, and a daughter, Becky Sumner of Ottawa. She survived by 2 brothers, Gary (Deb) Powell and Kevin Powell, both of Lecompton. Roxie had 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. They were the light of her life. Roxie was full of life and fun. Always a smile on her on face. She will be greatly missed by all.
The family will receive friends and family Thursday, Feb. 20th, from 5 till 7 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Services will be Friday Feb. 21st at 10:00 at the Lecompton United Methodist Church, with Pastor Rob Ernest officiating, Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Lecompton, KS.
