Sylvia Luevada Smith

Services for Sylvia Luevada Smith, Lynnwood, Wash., will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Southside Church of Christ. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs Smith died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Swedish Edmonds Hospital in Edmonds, Wash.

She was born Oct. 14, 1920 on the Earls Flats, Summerfield, Okla., the daughter of Charles Osie and Malinda Catherine Earls Reeves. She lived in the Lawrence area since 1958, only recently moving to Oregon and Washington, due to declining health.

Mrs. Smith worked for Acme Laundry, as a seamstress for Bud Jennings, and then for Jane Bateman. She was a member of the Southside Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing, making clothing, quilting, and gardening. Sylvia was a very independent and self-sufficient woman.

She married Paul Carrel Smith at Pocola, Okla., on July 28, 1939.
Survivors include a son, Steven Smith and his wife Sherry, of Kingston, Wash.; daughters Elaine Hetschel, of Albany, Ore., and Joyce Athey and husband James of Eudora; a brother, James Charles Reeves, of Wagoner, Okla.; grandchildren Natane Hetschel, Anita Thornton, Lonnie Dann Hetschel, Alexia Arlene Maben, Shawn William Athey, Gwen Erin Mallot, Andy Paul Smith, Chris Beckdolt and Carrie Knebusch; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Sylvia was the oldest of six children. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Tilford Utah Reeves and George W. Reeves; a half-brother, John William Reeves; two sisters, Della Ellender Hogue and Dessie Pauline McDonald; one granddaughter, Kai Hetschel, and one great-granddaughter, Lisa Athey.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
