Services for William David “Bill” Deel, 68, Lawrence, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin City.
Mr. Deel died Thursday, December 8, 2016, at his home.
He was born December 29, 1947, in Lawrence, the son of William Glenville and Betty Jean Coleman Deel. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1966 and attended Baker University and The University of Kansas.
Mr. Deel worked for Hallmark Cards for 23 years. He then became an over the road truck driver for 17 years, before retiring in 2013. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Baldwin City. He enjoyed fishing, participating in firework displays with his son David, watching the Jayhawks, Chiefs, and Royals, and smoking a pipe or good cigar. He especially enjoyed spending time with family.
He married Kathleen Anne Lamb, June 6, 1970, in Baldwin City at the First United Methodist Church. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, William David Deel; brothers, Sam Alfred Deel and wife Margy of Northfield, Minnesota, Roy Edward Deel and wife Connie of Baldwin City; sister-in-law, Ronda Deel of Cincinnati, OH; brother-in-law, Phillip A. Lamb and wife Lynn of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; nieces, Sarah Deel Fox and husband Sean of Northfield, Minnesota and their children Katie and Elliott, Corrinne Lamb of Duluth, Minnesota, and Mattie Cooper and wife Kayla of Albuquerque, New Mexico; nephews, Chapin Deel and wife Marie of Santa Fe, New Mexico and their children Araceli Elizabeth and Lorena Catherine, Nathan Deel of Lawrence.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffery Lawrence Deel; brother, James Coleman “Jim” Deel; and niece, Susan Deel Bryan.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The family suggests memorials to Ballard Community Services/ Penn House, sent in care of the funeral home.
