Bruce Charles Sauer, 71, of Lawrence, died Monday, August 3, 2026, at home surrounded by family.
He was born August 17, 1954, in Kabul, Afghanistan, the son of Charles August Sauer Jr and Alma Leona Enns Sauer. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1972. He worked for Schlumberger for many years and retired in 2012 when he was diagnosed with cancer. He put up a 14-year battle with the disease and maintained his strength and sense of humor through it all.
He married Diana Lynn Guenther on May 21, 1977, in Lawrence, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter, Jaime Lynn Gillman (Mike), a son, Joel Allen Sauer (Brooke), a son, John Charles Sauer (Sabrina); 9 grandchildren, Mika Hagan, Sora Gillman, Landon Gillman, Ethan Sauer, Mason Sauer, Bryce Sauer, Colin Sauer, Alyssa Sauer, Derek Sauer; 2 great-grandchildren, Slater Hagan and Aurora Hagan; 3 siblings, Mary Yoder (Steve), Ted Sauer (Gay), Stan Sauer (Jean) and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death his mother, Alma Leona Enns Sauer and his father, Charles August Sauer Jr.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who have had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will take place from 5-7p.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place the following day, Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 1 p.m. at River City Church, 3001 Lawrence Ave., Lawrence, KS 66047. Graveside services will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1605 Oak Hill Ave., Lawrence, KS 66044.
