A Celebration of Life for Corieta Jo Davis, 72, Eudora, will be at 1 pm Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory, with the Rev. Bob Giffin officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Corieta died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 17, 1941, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Melvin and Verlie Bennett. She graduated from Syracuse, Kan. High School, and later earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Louisiana State University. She was a speech pathologist, and had worked in the public schools in Baton Rouge, La., at Appalachian Regional Hospital in Hazard, Ky., and most recently at Menorah Medical Center, from which she retired in 2011. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, travel, reading, and spending time with family.
She married John M. Davis in 1957 in Sterling, Kan. He preceded her in death, as did a brother, Kent Toot, and a sister, Sherri Malleck. Survivors include three sons, Ken Melvin Davis, Scott City, Kan., Randall Eugene Davis (Missy), Biloxi, Miss., and Scott Alan Davis (Leslie), Atlanta; a daughter, Becky Sasse (Carl), Eudora; her parents, Syracuse, Kan; three brothers, Fred Toot (Joan), Baldwin City, Mike Bennett (Kim), Lawrence, and Steve Bennett (Toni), Syracuse; a sister, Ronita Maynard, Austin, Tex.; six grandchildren, Diane Immer, and Brett, Keaton, Emma, Claire, and Anna Davis; and four great grandchildren, Charlotte and Max Immer, and Mackenzie and Meyer Davis.
