Doris Brandt Sullivant

Doris Brandt Sullivant, age 95, of Lawrence, Kansas passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at her home with her son and grandsons at her side.

She was born February 6, 1926 in Ottawa, Kansas and baptized at Tauy Church.  Her parents were Louis and Grace Turner of Ottawa.

Doris grew-up in Ottawa. She met Royce Brandt at a Church of the Brethren young adults gathering in Lone Star.  They married in 1945 and began farming at Lone Star.  Their children, Robert and Susan, were born in Lawrence, Kansas. The family moved to Southern California in 1951 due to Royce’s health.  They returned to Kansas in 1964 and settled in Ottawa.  In 1970, Doris and Royce returned to their farm at Lone Star.  She worked as the bookkeeper at Lawrence Public Library, and Royce worked with the Army Corps of Engineers at Clinton Lake.  Following Royce’s death in 1980, Doris continued to live at her farm.

Over the years she participated in Crop Walk, Business and Professional Women (BPW), needle work group, book group, women in prison support group, and often attended annual conferences of the Church of the Brethren.  She retired from the library and married Milton Sullivant in 1987.  Following Milton’s death in 2000, she remained in their home in Lawrence.  Doris enjoyed attending church regularly, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

She is survived by her son Robert Brandt and his wife Shirley, of Lawrence, Kansas; her daughter Susan Heck and husband Christoph of Berlin, Germany; as well as her grandchildren Ryker Brandt, Ryan Brandt and his wife Brandy, Sarah Heck, and Leah Heck; and two great-grandchildren Beth Brandt and Emily Brandt.

There will be no public service or visitation but she will lie in state at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 5 and 6 for those who would like to visit.
