Evelyn M. Athey, 83, of Lawrence died Sunday, August 27th at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehab Center. A visitation will be held Tuesday, August 29th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Wednesday, August 30th at 10am at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Evelyn was born June 18, 1934 to William and Lily (Fields) Brightwell. She married Edward H. Athey on June 23, 1950 and they were married for 55 years. Mrs. Athey was a homemaker and volunteered with Douglas County Senior Meals on Wheels. She has been a member of the Lawrence community for most of her life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward along with two sons Carl and Danny; Sisters Christine, Clara May, Janie, and a brother Christopher.
Survivors include her sons Larry, Edward, Roger, William, and Gary Athey; She also has five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
