Graveside Services for Gerald Elvin Petrie, 90, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Jerry died Friday, May 26, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family. He was born March 24, 1933, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Richard and Luella Petrie. Jerry served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and worked as a Supervisor at FMC for 40 years.
He was a member of 360 Church, formerly known as Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, where he was the trustee/treasurer for 22 years.
Jerry married Laura May Scribner on March 31, 1956, in Newkirk, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2007. He married Joyce Ann Wallace on August 15, 2009. She survives of the home.
Survivors include two daughters, Jeri Jo Powers and husband Mitch, and Teri Axman and husband David, along with two sons, Kyle Petrie and fiancé Beth, and Steven Petrie, as well as son-in-law Mike Nieder, husband of daughter Sheri, who preceded him in death on April 14, 2020. Jerry also was the big brother to two sisters, Janice and Shirley. Upon marrying Joyce, Jerry’s family grew to include Joyce’s children, Dana Guest and husband David, Shelly McColm and husband Earl, and Kevin Currence and wife Jennifer.
Jerry’s legacy carries on through his children, but also his grandchildren, Madison, Stephanie, Kylie, David, Brian, Kyle, Erika, Ryan, Jerod, Brityn, Taeler, Cale, Eva, Ruth, Jordan, Lydia, Jacob, and Kassidy. Great-grandchildren include Jordan, Michael, Gabriella, Jack, Fin, Granger, Nathan, Rylee, Kinsley, Colton, Elizabeth, Enzo, Sloan, Parker, Cale, Maisy, and Dean.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana Street, Lawrence.
