Memorial Services for Jorge Luis Jacobs, 90, of Lawrence, will be at 2 pm, Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Jacobs died Friday, April 17, 2026, at Bridge Haven in Lawrence, Kansas, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born May 31, 1935, in Pinalejo, Santa Barbara, Honduras, the son of Jorge Sidney Jacobs and Maria Luisa Murillo. After finishing his education, he moved to Puerto Cortes, Honduras to start a career in shipping logistics and operations, working with companies that included Hapag-Lloyd and Standard Fruit Company. He also owned and operated a cargo transportation business.
He met Judith Castellanos in Puerto Cortes, and they married in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on December 30, 1960. They moved to Lawrence in the early 1980s, and he started a new career with Packer Plastics (later Berry Plastics), where he became a warehouse supervisor until his retirement in 2012. His beloved Judith passed away in 2005.
Survivors include two sons, Jorge Jacobs (Karen), Lawrence, Kansas, and Henry Jacobs (Debbie), Groton, South Dakota; a daughter, Carolina Coleman, Lawrence; three grandchildren, Spencer Jacobs and Sarah Jacobs, both of Groton, South Dakota, and Skyler Coleman, Lawrence, Kansas; and two sisters, Alma Ruth Jacobs and Abigail Jacobs, both of San Pedro Sula, Honduras.
Mr. Jacobs was preceded in death by a sister, Esther, two brothers, Percy and Raul, and a son-in-law, Ron Coleman.
Memorial services will take place on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 2 pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana Street, Lawrence, KS 66044. Inurnment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1517 East 15th Street, Lawrence, Kansas 66044.
