Graveside services for Joseph E. Lown Jr., 83, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Perry Michelson officiating.
Mr. Lown died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Baldwin Healthcare & Rehab Center.
He was born Apr. 10, 1927, in Lawrence, the son of Joseph E. Sr. and Goldie Sewell Lown. He attended Lawrence schools.
Mr. Lown was employed by Lawrence Pipe & Steel for more than 30 years. After his retirement, he worked at River City Car Wash. He was a member of Church of God (Holiness), and enjoyed playing bingo and making cookies at the nursing home.
He married Barbara Jean Bell on June 25, 1982, in Ford County, Kan. She died Apr. 27, 2004.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Sheila Lillard and husband Tom, Taylorsville, Ky.; a brother, Francis Leroy Lown, Thailand; two sisters, Linda Lown Lassen and husband Pete, Lawrence, and Izetta Countess, Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Trixie.
Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
