Leah Pauline “Polly” Roberts walked on from this life on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Stormont-Vail in Topeka, KS.
Born May 5, 1936 in Yuma, AZ, to Henry Thomas and Margaret Opal (Guilliams) Clowers, Polly was an only child. She graduated from Pattonsburg, MO, High School, and attended Research Hospital Nursing School in Kansas City. She married Glen Melvin Roberts on December 18, 1955 in Lawrence, KS, where they raised their family after Glen graduated from K-State. They moved to Topeka and were active in Abdullah Shrine. Glen preceded her in death in 1988.
Polly worked for SRS Children’s Division and for Let’s Help while in Topeka, and loved helping people. She followed her daughter’s family to White City and Abilene, KS, where she also made life-long friends. She moved back to Topeka in 2006, and lived there until her passing.
At the time of her death, Polly was living at a retirement community, where she had many loving friends. She enjoyed chatting, organizing community events and activities, keeping up with city, state and national politics, and helping community members in times of need. She was an avid K-State fan. She was a staunch advocate for anyone she felt was not being treated fairly, and had all of her Legislators on “speed dial”. She enjoyed life, a good laugh, and ‘sharing the road’ on this journey.
She is survived by a son, Glen E. Roberts, Topeka; a daughter, Dr. Dorothy Roberts Arvizu and her son-in-law, Bruce Arvzu, Sedalia, MO, a granddaughter, Alexis Arvizu, St. Louis, MO, and a step-granddaughter, Erica Herold (and family),Topeka.
Cremation is planned and a private memorial for friends and family will be held on Oct. 23. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
