Moyne Lavona Hayes Golub Mohs

Moyne Lavona Hayes Golub Mohs, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away September 25, 2017 at home in Lawrence, Kansas.

Born in Wheaton, Kansas, June 25, 1919, Moyne lived all her childhood in Onaga, Kansas, till returning to Kansas City, Kansas after high school to attend Business College. Onaga Rural High School class of of 1937 was comprised of 28 seniors.

The remainder of her 98 years was spent in Kansas City, and Overland Park, Kansas, until her move to Lawrence in 2014. Fiercely independent, she remained in her home til age 93.

Moyne was preceded in death by her parents: E.C. (Con)Hayes and Avis DeGraw Hayes, husband Joseph Golub and husband M.C. (Mike) Mohs.

Her children include daughter, Marsha Jo Owen (husband Jean); son, J. Richard (Rick) Golub (wife Maryln); grandchildren, Justin Owen (wife Yvonne), Molly Golub Brown (husband Toby), Andrew Golub (fiancé Katelyn Boehler), Sean Golub; great-grandchildren, Kyle Owen, Tyler Owen, Caden Owen, and Mia Brown).

Moyne was an active longtime member of First Pilgrim Congressional Church, 22nd & Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. She later joined Colonial Church in Prairie Village.

She was a 47 year member of Chapter FX, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Psi Psi Psi, and Life Member of the St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary.

Family was central to her life and she took care of everyone else first. She worked behind the scenes, never for outward recognition. Moyne’s recipes are her legacy as she was an exemplary cook. She prepared huge family meals, loved the holidays, was a prim and proper lady who loved to dance, and was a stellar bridge player. She will be greatly missed by her family and all her friends.
