Nyle R. Wiggins

Nyle Ray Wiggins passed away at Lawrence Memorial Hospital with his wife at his side. He was born January 21, 1941 in Modesto, CA to Gladys Lorene (Huff) Wiggins and Chesley Alfred Wiggins. The family moved back to Springfield, Mo when he was very young. He attended schools in Springfield, Mo, graduating from Hillcrest Senior High School in 1959. He joined the Naval Reserves in June of 1958 during his Senior year. Upon graduation he joined the Army with an honorable discharge in July of 1965.

Nyle married Sharon Summers Farrar on February 20th, 1965, at National Avenue Christian Church in Springfield, Mo. In 1967 his employment took him to Kansas City, MO area where they lived in Prairie Village, KS.

On October 28, 1968 a son, Steven Ray Wiggins was born. In 1971 Nyle had the opportunity to own his own business. Nyle and the family moved to Lawrence, KS where he became co-owner of K&M Decorating Center.

Once in Lawrence they had a daughter Tracy Lynne (Wiggins) Turner, born on September 16, 1973.

In the early 80’s, he moved on to open Universal Sales Inc. a local floor covering business for the remainder of his career. Nyle had a love of off road motorcycles and in the 1970’s, his family and friends spent many weekends camping together and riding dirt bike trails. He even bought Steve his own bike at age seven! During one phase of his life he was a member of the Shrine Cycle Patrol and rode the big Harley in parades. Nyle was happiest when coaching his son in little league and Holcomb baseball and in the later years watching his grandchildren play. Growing up his family sang and played in a gospel quartet. From this Nyle developed his love of Country and Southern Gospel music.

After a stroke in 2010, his health began to deteriorate, and the business was turned over to his son Steve. In November of 2020, the COVID19 virus took his life.

He is preceded in death by an older brother Loyal Wiggins, nieces Denise and Donna a nephew Davin and his parents Lorene and Chesley Wiggins.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Wiggins; his son Steven (Stacee) Wiggins of Lawrence; granddaughters Kaylee Wiggins, Kellee Wiggins, Kylee (Coy) Leming of Eudora; and a grandson Brandon (Kegan) Wiggins and a four week old great-grandson, Nolan, of DeSoto, KS. Also surviving is Nyle’s daughter, Tracy (Steven) Turner and grandsons Dylan and Jacob Turner of McKinney, TX . Other survivors, are a brother, C.J. Wiggins (Jan) of Springfield, Mo and a sister, Loretta Kay Wiggins of Branson, Mo. and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the heroes at LMH and Medicalodges of Eudora that cared for him and made his final days comfortable.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Clinton Cemetery at 1203 E 500 Road, Lawrence, KS 66049 on December 12th, 2020 at 1:30pm CST. Due to the coronavirus, social distancing and masks are required.
