Funeral services for Yates (Jerry) Jarrett, 97, Lawrence, will be 11 am Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Matt Sturtevant officiating. Private interment will follow. He died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
Jerry was born May 9, 1918, in Marion, North Carolina, the son of Carson Elijah and Cola Mae Daves Jarrett. He was a World War II veteran and worked as a self-employed flooring installer. He was a very hard worker, a man of great faith, a deacon and usher in his church well into his 90’s, and was a much loved husband and father.
He married Norma Evelyn Witzke on Feb. 21, 1952, in Liberal, KS. They were married 63 years, and she survives of the home. Other survivors include a daughter Jan and husband Bill; sons Mike and wife Kim, and Dale; grandchildren, Katie and husband Tim, Timothy and wife Amber; many nieces nephews; grand-nieces and nephews including his nephew Bill Jarrett and wife Jeanette; and two step-grandsons, Spencer and Dashiell. Jerry was the oldest of seven children all who preceded him in death along with his parents.
He will lie in state Monday from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
