R. Eileen Iles

Graveside service for R. Eileen Iles, 94, Lawrence, will be 11 am Friday at ClintonCemetery. She died Sunday at Presbyterian Manor. She was born November 29, 1919 on Clinton, KS. the daughter of Russell C and Osie L. Marshall White.

Mrs. Iles attended Lawrence public schools and graduated Liberty Memorial High in 1937.

She married Augustus Charles Iles on April 29, 1981 in San Diego, CA. He preceded her in death on January 21, 1996.

Survivors include daughters Saundra Sue and husband John Pichelman of Lawrence and Donna Jeanne Flory (Stanley) of Baldwin City, one son David and wife Mary Thomas of St. George, UT, 2 step-daughters and their families of Wisconsin, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous step-grand and great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home from noon to 8 pm. Thursday where the family well receive friends from 4 to 6 pm.

Memorials may be made to Lawrence Humane Society in care of the funeral home.

Paula Glover Washee

After a gallant 1 1/2 year battle with cancer, Paula Glover Washee passed away fighting all the way at her home in Lecompton, KS. She was born December 8, 1956 in Salt Lake City, UT. She grew up in Wichita, KS and spent the last 30 years in Lecompton.

Paula was one of six children born to the late Paul and Betty Glover. Paula will be forever remembered by her son Patrick Dondlinger, sister Cindy Lane (Lew), brothers Greg (Bobbi), Scot (Susan), Jerry (Angie), her late brother Gary Glover, grandchildren Ashley, Alexis, and Coleman Dondlinger, along with countless friends and family whom were blessed to know her.

Paula loved all things crafty, spending time in her garden, laughing, being with her family, and having fun with her friends. Her favorite response was “I love you more.” She always worked to help others at KU Food Service, Dillons, and Brandon Woods.

Paula touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity and maintained her trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 at 11am at Lecompton United Methodist Church, 402 Elmore St, Lecompton, KS 66050.

The family requests memorials made to Learning Quest, a 529 Educational Fund,  set up for Alexis and Coleman Dondlinger, sent in care of the funeral home.

Mary Lou Pierce

Mary Lou Pierce, 60, Lawrence, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, after her fight with cancer.  She was born in Lawrence on Oct. 16, 1953, to Frank and Lazara Romero. In 1971, Mary Lou married Kerry Pierce, and together they raised their son Kevin and daughter Amanda.  Since 1988, Mary Lou owned and operated Pierce Day Care, where she touched the lives of countless children and their families.

She is survived by her husband Kerry, her parents, Frank and Lazara, and her children, Kevin, Amanda, and son-in-law Tom de Man. She is also survived by her siblings Anna & Eric Dawson, Diana Romero, Mark & Lori Romero, and Amy & Gabriel Chavez.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Mary Lou Pierce Memorial Fund, in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St., Lawrence, KS, 66044.  A private memorial service will be held at the funeral home.

Charles Rayford Odom

Graveside services with military honors for Charles Rayford Odom, 84, Lawrence will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mr. Odom died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at his home.

He was born January 13, 1930, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, the son of Henry and Murlin Odom.  He graduated from high school in Kermit, Texas.

Mr. Odom joined the U.S. Air Force when he was 18 and retired after 20 years of service, as a Master Sergeant in communications.  He was an avid University of Kansas Athletics Fan.

He married Donna L. Regelin, July 18, 1958 in El Paso, Texas.  She died in February of 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Brickell and husband Russell of Lawrence; son, Jeff Odom of Lawrence; brothers; Cecil Odom and wife Betty of Midland, Texas, and Vernon Odom and wife Norma Grace of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Cassandra Brickell of Seattle, Washington, and Douglas Brickell of Lawrence.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Special Olympics sent in care of the funeral home.

Michael Edward Morrill

Memorial services will be held at 10 AM April 3, 2014, at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church in Lawrence.

Michael was born October 14, 1946 in Evansville, Indiana. He passed away March 30, 2014, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Michael was the son of William F. Morrill and Virginia B. Morrill and the brother of Brenton D. Morrill.

He attended Concordia KS Public School and the University of Kansas. Michael was employed with the University of Kansas.

He married Rachael Longhurst. They later divorced.

Michael’s church affiliation was Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church.

Gayla “Jeanette” Dowis

Graveside services for Gayla “Jeanette” Dowis, 60, Lawrence, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Dowis died Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at her home.

She was born August 5, 1953, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Orva Lewis and Georgia Ruth McClure Shelby.  She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1971.

Ms. Dowis worked as a home health provider as well as a homemaker.  She enjoyed taking care of her daughter, shopping with her mother, collecting recipes, and watching KU Basketball.

Survivors include a daughter, Christina “Dawn” Dowis of Lawrence; her mother, Georgia Shelby of Lawrence; and  sister, Judy Harmon and husband Tom of Lawrence.

She was preceded in death by her father, Orva Shelby; and brother, Terry Shelby.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Jeanette Dowis Memorial Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.

Ruth May Schelbar

Services for Ruth M. Schelbar, 97 Lawrence, will be at 1 pm Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Memorial Park.
 
Ruth died Sunday March 23, 2014 at Medicalodge, in Eudora surrounded by family and loving caregivers.

Ruth was born Sept 16, 1916 on the North 40 outside Vinland, KS to Walter S. and Sarah V. Parsons. Ruth married Joe Schelbar Dec. 31, 1937. Joe and Ruth lived in Lawrence, enjoyed family, travel and service to others. Ruth was active with LMH Auxiliary until she became ill in July 2013.
 
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Joe, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Ruth leaves behind son Joe Schelbar and wife Lanna of Tulsa, Oklahoma, daughter Sarah League of Overland Park. Six grandchildren, Kylee Joyce,  Brynna Schelbar, Nick Schelbar, Natalie Schelbar ,Tulsa,  Shawn  League and Randel League, Overland Park.  Two great grandchildren Owen Finn Joyce and Hadley Jane Joyce, Tulsa . Sister Mildred Kirk,  Tulsa and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is at Rumsey-Yost Thursday 5:30 pm – 7 pm.

The family suggests memorials to the church, VNA/Hospice of Lawrence, American Heart Assoc.. in care of Rumsey-Yost.
