Memorial services for Cecil Glenn Teeter, 96, Lawrence, KS, will be held next spring in La Porte City, IA, with inurnment in West View Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #207.
Mr. Teeter died on December 16, 2014.
He was born October 29, 1918, in La Porte City, IA, the son of Glenn and Margaret (Sawyer) Teeter. He graduated from La Porte City High School in 1936, and attended Iowa State Teachers College (now University of Northern Iowa). He was a member of Alpha Delta Alpha fraternity.
He married Emma Elizabeth Larsen in 1942, in West Palm Beach, FL. She preceded him in death in 2010.
Mr. Teeter served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, as Second Lieutenant, Signal Corps, and Captain, Officer Reserve Corps. During World War II he served in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany attached to the Air Corps. He earned the American Campaign medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern medal with nine combat stars and bronze arrowhead, and the WWII Victory medal. He was recalled to active duty from 1950 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict, serving as Company Commander at Camp Gordon, GA, and Camp Cooke, CA.
Mr. Teeter became a manager for AT&T in several departments; during his 38-year career with them he worked in Iowa City, Kansas City, New York City, Washington, D.C, and Kansas City again. In retirement he lived in Roeland Park, KS, Mesa, AZ, and Lawrence, KS. He was a member of the Village Presbyterian Church and its Men’s Club during the years he lived in Prairie Village, KS. He served three years as an elected officer of the retired Telephone Pioneers in the Kansas City area. He was a member of American Legion Post #207 in La Porte City, IA.
Survivors include a son, Steven Teeter (Sharon), Campbell, CA; two daughters, Marilyn Teeter, Lawrence, KS, and Patricia Zara (George), Aiken, SC; three brothers, Clare Teeter, Peoria, AZ, Truman Teeter, San Gabriel, CA, and James Teeter (Maria), Portland, OR; a sister, Dorothy Frericks (Marvin), Denver, IA; a sister-in law, Ann Larsen, Clear Lake, IA; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a granddaughter, Ann Kandybowicz; two brothers and their wives, Robert & Maxine Teeter and William & Cecile Teeter; two sisters-in-law, Juanita (Mrs. Clare) Teeter and Marie (Larsen) Kogen; and a brother-in-law, Carl Larsen.
