A Celebration of Life service for Deane R. Holmes, 75, Prairie Village, will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 11, 2015, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends following the service. Mr. Holmes died Friday, July3, 2015, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.
He was born October 6, 1939, in Lawrence, the son of Raymond D. and Erna K. Schwarz Holmes. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1957. After serving in the U.S. Army, Deane earned a bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University. Deane was a loss control consultant in the insurance industry for more than 45 years. Upon graduation from KSU, he began his career with FIA, then taking a fire protection engineering position with R.B. Jones – Alexander & Alexander – Aon. He later took the loss control position with Hays Corporation. He was a member of the NFPA and GEAPS. As a member of NFPA he served on several committees helping to write and establish current standards for underground and grain storage.
He married Sherry McCanles in June, 1961, in Lawrence. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Deane R. Holmes Jr. and wife Aimee, Lawrence; a grandson, Adam J. Holmes, Gardner; a sister Deanna Marquette and husband Dick, Overland Park; a niece Jennifer Marquette, nephews Neal Marquette and Stephen Marquette; and numerous cousins.
