E. Donald Seba, 90, died on Tuesday (Dec. 9) at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center, Tonganoxie, Kansas, following a long illness.
Seba was born on June 11, 1924 to Erwin Daniel and Clara Moneymaker Seba. He grew up on the family farm near Raymore, Missouri, and graduated from Raymore High School in 1942.
He entered the U.S. Army in 1944, serving as Sherman tank crewman in the 777th Tank Battalion attached to the 28th and 69th Infantry Divisions in the Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns in the European Theater of Operations from February through May 1945.
Following discharge from the Army in 1946, he returned to farming with his family.
He married Rhea Alexander on Nov. 27, 1954. They were married for nearly 58 years until her death on Oct. 15, 2012.
Seba graduated from Finlay Engineering College in Kansas City, Missouri in 1959. He was a licensed professional engineer in the states of Missouri, Kansas and Wyoming and worked for the Kansas Highway Department, Wyoming Highway Department, Kansas City-area private engineering firms and as city engineer of Harrisonville, Missouri, between 1960 and 1970.
Seba became Director of Public Works and City Engineer for the City of Leavenworth, Kansas in 1971. He left the City of Leavenworth in 1978 to become General Manager of Bromley & Sons Quarry and Asphalt. He retired from Bromley & Sons in 1988.
During his retirement, Seba enjoyed gardening, reading, participating in the Atchison United Methodist Church, and providing advice and support to his sons, granddaughter, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, George Edward Seba, and Maurice Seba and a sister, Karen Kreisel.
Seba is survived by his sons, Erwin George Seba, Pearland, Texas; S.D. Seba, Leavenworth; a granddaughter, Cassie Seba, Pearland, Texas; a brother, Fred M. Seba of Bosworth, Missouri; sisters Clara Beth Saunders, Liberty, Missouri; Mary Ann Newman, Slater, Missouri, and Linda Matthews of McLean, Virginia, along with nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to the United Methodist Church, Seba was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Leavenworth Kiwanis.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home & Crematory in Lawrence, Kansas.
