Funeral services with military honors for Elroy Washington, 101, Lawrence will be 9 am, Friday, April 21, 2017, at St. Luke A.M.E. Church, 900 New York Street, Lawrence, KS 66044. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
He died Sunday April 16, 2017, at Ottawa Retirement Village, Ottawa, KS.
Elroy was born December 13, 1915, in Clinton, KS, the son of Lewis and Belle M. Washington. He graduated from Lawrence High School.
He enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. During his service he lived in various states Colorado, Georgia, California and Missouri. He retired from the army in 1969 and settled back in Kansas. He then worked for Kenworth for 12 years before retiring.
Elroy enjoyed spending his time fishing, working with model trains and transferring his records and cassette tapes to cds.
He married Cora Mae Todd on November 17, 1979, she preceded him in death in 2002.
Survivors include a son Freddie Todd; four daughters, Vanesta Todd, Melrene Todd, Anna Acker, Tomiacener Todd.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cora
A visitation will take place Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.
