Born September 17, 1952 to Gerald Owens and Patricia Coffelt, Gera was a life-long resident of Lawrence.
On February 14, 1972, Gera married Kirby Elliott and together they raised three children, Kristin, Lynzee, and Brett.
Gera was a devoted employee of the University of Kansas for over forty years, most recently as the Admissions Coordinator for the school of Architecture & Design.
Gera is proceeded in death by her grandparents, Kenneth and Alta “Birdie” Puckett; her mother, Patricia Coffelt; stepfather, Chuck Coffelt; and son, Brett Elliott.
She is survived by her husband, Kirby Elliott; her daughters, Kristin Elliott and Lynzee Backus; five grandchildren Jordan, Cooper, Ellie, Alex, and Lucy; and one great-grandchild.
Gera will be remembered by her friends and family for her unwavering love of family, humor, and kindness.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Union Pacific Depot at 402 N. Second Street in North Lawrence from 3-5pm.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Gera’s memory are encouraged to donate to the Lawrence Humane Society.
