They say there are only two things that are a have to – pay taxes and die – with the first being one that can be avoided, but with a penalty. The second, one with a reward beyond human imagination.

Today, Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, we said good-bye to our mother of age 94. LaRane Ola (Grover) Cobb. She left this world peacefully and took the final voyage home that has been promised to us. Now rejoicing with her brothers and sisters.

She was born Dec. 24th 1920 in the small town of Stockton Ks., the daughter of Ray and Bertha Grover and the youngest of 13 children. She had many occupations during her lifetime: Waitress, florist, secretary at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, worked at Hallmark Cards in the old building at 23rd and Learnard in Lawrence, and also in Kansas City. She also did a stint in Las Vegas, Nev. as a nanny to Joe Lewis. Yes, that’s Joe Lewis, former heavyweight champion of the world. And singer Bobby Vinton. She was very articulate, using her talent as a florist and various arts and crafts, mainly ceramics. She loved working in her yard and generally had the best looking lawn on the block. Loved baseball and was an avid die hard Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves fan. Book reader, bowler, crossword puzzle solver, and loved to fish.

She leaves behind five children, Judy and husband Klaus, Seattle, Wa., John and wife Peggy, Kansas City/Phoenix, Az., Connie and husband Bill, Parsons, Ks., Alan and wife Nina, Lawrence, Ks. and Michael, Lawrence, Ks. A whole flock of grandkids, Wendy, Lyle, Kelly, Christian, John, Colleen, Kyle, Eric, Heidi, Christy and great grandchildren AJ, Keith, Anthony, Lauren, Kayleigh, Emily, Mac, Maggie, Christopher, AJ, Faith, Cody, Kyra, Hadley, and Ethan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

We are going to miss her dearly, but as the life cycle goes, her long run of 94 years here in this world came to an end. Her granddaughter, Colleen said, “That life is like a scary rollercoaster – there are lots of ups and downs, twists and turns. But when it’s over, you want to do it again. And right now, she is doing it again in the glorious Kingdom of God.”
