A graveside memorial service for Larry Dean Marcum, 73, Perry, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 15th at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence.
Mr. Marcum passed away March 27, 2017, at his home.
He was born March 22, 1944, in Lawrence, the son of Earl Vernon and Eleanor Vera Ward Marcum. He graduated from Eudora High School. Soon after, he married his high school sweetheart Karolyn K. Diedrich on his family farm on June 5, 1962. He joined the United States Marine Corps and soon after left to serve in Vietnam during the war.
When he returned he went to work for the University of Kansas in the maintenance department from 1967 to 1988 and also worked as a HVAC technician for various companies over the years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, grilling and gardening in his spare time and was also a life long member of the NRA.
He and his wife later divorced after 34 years together and she passed away December 8, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Harry Marshall.
Survivors include a son, Bryan Marcum and wife Megan of Williamstown; daughter, Lea Marcum and husband Randy of Lawrence; and daughter Joanna Marcum Bartlett and husband Kevin of Derby; brother, Gary Marshall of Eudora; sister, Brenda Ackerman of Lawrence; cousin, Donald Knight of Lawrence; and grandchildren, Jacalyn, Jonathan, Nicole, Lucas, Matthew, Zachary, and Avery.
The family would like to thank Faith, Simon and Amanda for the excellent care, love and compassion they gave to Larry, and suggests memorials be sent to Star Living, in care of the funeral home.
