Funeral services for Mae Anna Bell Hoffman, 99, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Worden Cemetery, Worden.
Mrs. Hoffman died Saturday, Apr. 30, 2011, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.
She was born July 11, 1911, in Worden, the fourth child of John Henry and Dollie Ida Kauffman Pippert. She was raised in the Worden community.
Mrs. Hoffman was a homemaker, and had worked at Rusty’s IGA on 23rd Street for many years as the Deli Manager. She was a member of Worden United Methodist Church and the India Home Demonstration Unit. She was a 4-H leader, and enjoyed gardening, quilting, flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She married Charles William Hoffman on Mar. 8, 1933. He preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ralph Pippert and Albert Pippert, and two sisters, Elsie Pippert Hoffman and Helen Pippert Strong.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Wright and Charlotte Sparkes, both of Lawrence; five grandchildren, James Sparkes Jr., David Sparkes, Bradley Wright, Lisa Sparkes Hughes, and Sheri Wright Geer; eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
